Capt. MICHAEL W. “TRUCK” TRUCZINSKAS

Captain Truczinskas, a Bronze Medal recipient, was a classmate of a friend of mine at Norwich. He was killed in Saudi on December 5, 2008. A funeral service will be held Monday, 26 January 2009, in Great Barrington, MA.

Captain Michael William “Truck” Truczinskas, 46, of Goshen, CT., died December 5, 2008 in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where he was employed with General Dynamics Corporation for the past several years.

Born in Brockton, MA. December 11, 1961, the son of Robert and Geraldine Martinelli Truczinskas, he was a 1979 graduate of Rockland (MA.) High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Government from Norwich University in Northfield, VT., class of 1983 where he graduated and was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the United States Army.

Following graduation he began active service with the US Army and in October of 1983 he was assigned overseas to the Federal Republic of Germany. There he was assigned to D Company, 2 Battalion 32nd Armor, 1st Brigade, 3rd Armored Division, Kirchgoens Germany, “The Rock”. In 1986 he was promoted to Captain and was then assigned to Fort Benning Georgia. While at Fort Benning he commanded C Company 2nd Battalion 69th Armor and then the Headquarters and Headquarters Company 2nd Battalion 69th Armor, both of the 197th Infantry Brigade. In 1990 he deployed as the commander of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company 2nd Battalion 69th Armor during operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, for this he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Meritorious Service Medal.

Following his discharge, Mike relocated to Goshen Connecticut, with his family where he was a dedicated community member. He served as a former member of the Board of Education for Regional School District # 6, was a member of the Goshen Volunteer Fire Department, serving with the search and rescue squad, and as a dive team member. In addition he was a P.A.D.I. certified Dive Master, a member of the American Legion Post #46,and he was also very active in his children’s sporting efforts, serving as a soccer coach and Boy Scouts of America leader.

Mike is survived by his wife the former Terri A. Hassett whom he married on October 3, 1987 at Corpus Christi Church in Housatonic, Massachusetts. A son, Sean T. Truczinskas a student and member of the class of 2012 at Norwich University in Northfield, VT, one son Colin R. and one daughter Kailey S. Truczinskas both of Goshen, Ct.

Also his parents Robert and Geraldine(Martinelli)Truczinskas of Sioux Falls South Dakota. A sister Kimberly and her husband Carl Strang of Rotterdam, NY and his nieces Jessica and Christina Strang, a nephew Jimmy Strang and his Paternal Grandmother Bronie Truczinskas of Stoughton, MA and his maternal grandparents Eugene and Irene Martinelli of Florida, as well as several beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions may be made to the Truczinskas Family Children’s Fund in care of the 1st National Bank of Litchfield, Litchfield, CT.

The family will receive friends at the PHALEN FUNERAL HOME at 285 Migeon Ave, Torrington, CT on FRIDAY, JANUARY 23, 2009 FROM 4-7 P.M.

The Family will also receive friends on SUNDAY, JANUARY 25, 2009 FROM 2-5 P.M. at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 SOUTH STREET GREAT BARRINGTON, MA.

The funeral for Capt. Michael W. Truczinskas will be held on MONDAY, JANUARY 26, 2009 AT 9 A.M. from the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME IN GREAT BARRINGTON, followed by A liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish (CORPUS CHRISTI CHURCH) in Housatonic, MA celebrated by the Rev. William Murphy, Pastor. Burial will follow at the family plot in St. Bridget’s, Cemetery Housatonic. The family invites friends to gather at the James A. Modolo VFW post in Great Barrington following the funeral services.

I believe that SF is a 'calling' - not too different from the calling missionaries I know received. I knew instantly that it was for me, and that I would do all I could to achieve it. Most others I know in SF experienced something similar. If, as you say, you HAVE searched and read, and you do not KNOW if this is the path for you --- it is not....
