Acceptable Hotels Near Ft. Bragg

Hello Gentlemen,

I will be travelling to Ft. Bragg as a civilian on the 29th-31st of January.
I am looking for an acceptable (clean & safe) hotel near (short cab ride) base.
I have been informed to stay away from Cross Creek.

Any help is appreciated,

GD

While attending an SF graduation three years back I found this Hotel to be pretty nice.

The area has a number of scattered locations that have hotel/motels.

The keys to the answer to your question is how much to you plan on spending per night, the amenities the hotel has, entertainment/night life around the hotel and easy access to Ft Bragg.

The Cross Creek Mall area has at least 4 motels, and another one off around Sycamore Dairy Road. There are a number of places to eat just a couple of blocks away on McPherson Church Rd.

Other hotels can be found out by the Crown and the Hwy 53/210 & I-95 Exit but are a long haul in by taxi.

I would not consider the Mall area to be dangerous - just a little rude.

Spring Lake - well, Spring Lake is Spring Lake. After hours intertainment is somewhat limited.

As far as the hotels at Cross Creek mall, there are two that are NO-GOs, the Innkeeper and Hampton Inn. According to my LEO friends, both are notorious "hot sheet" hotels and a lot of drugs and partying going on during the weekends. They have a lot of problems at those two.

The 3 Hotels on Sycamore Dairy, while a little costly, are nice and have amenities and lots of things to do in the area (two restaurants I would recommend are the Mash House and Skips)...as Pete said.

There are two Holiday Inns I would recommend as I have had friends stay at both.... at Cross Creek, down the side road from the Innkeeper is nice and quiet and affordable and the Holiday Inn at Bourdeaux (straight shot from Bragg down the All American Hwy). Bourdeaux has a restaurant/sports bar, pool, tons of amenities.

Good luck and welcome to Fatalville.

Actually there is a nice long stay hotel off of All American across from 316 Oyster Bar, Foolion, and a few dinners and close to mall and ft. bragg

I am partial to the Hilton Gardens on Sycamore Dairy. It is close to most everything, new with decent amenities for a reasonable price.

Nothing really "wrong" with the stuff around Cross Creek... then again I tend to laugh when people refer to Fayetteville as dangerous. I lived in LA too long I guess.

To the best of my knowledge a Rooster is not a drink... past that I will leave it to RL to tell.

GD what do you need help with? Restaurant? Bar? Hotel?

Restaurant... Mash House is good and is a decent micro brewery. Steaks a plenty in Fayetteville (Texas Roadhouse, Outback, Chris' et al). If you like Japanese hibachi/sushi bar there is Miyabi's on Skibo. Mexican (although I am partial to On the Board for health reasons) there is El Cazador's and Mi Casita (old school lard based Mexican). You have most every corp. dining (Chili's, OTB, Red Robin, Tony Roma's, etc) around the mall. For breakfast I am partial to the Haymount Grill downtown. There is a new place called the Skibo Skillet at Cliffdale and Skibo, but I can't vouch for it since I haven't tried it yet. IHOP is an hour wait minimum on the weekends and there is always the Awful Waffle which is quick and cheap.

COFFEE as this is an entirely different food group. There are three Starbucks. One on post at the mini mall, at Cross Creek, and on Walter Reed at the end of All American. If you are a smoker or don't mind smelling like smoke, you can go to the Coffee Scene in Westwood.

Bar... Stay away from ITZ and the Big Apple unless you are looking for a one nighter with a tab/rank chaser. Ugly Stick is a decent hole in the wall... only the patio will be closed this time of year which means you will be stuck in the crowded smoky bar. Keys downtown is a lot of fun. You have to get there early to get a table and don't count on being about to chat too much. Then again there is always the GB Club on post.

If you need a gym to workout at while here, let me know. We can hook you up with a pass.
