Jim's Gun Jobbery, Fayetteville, HORRIBLE customer service

So, I went out to buy an AR today, in fact a particular one that I saw yesterday at Jim's. I was never really a fan of that shop, but they were the only ones in town with the rifle that I wanted. For the record, I was going to buy that weapon, there was no doubt in my mind until this conversation took place.

After looking around the store some to see what else they had I went to the counter and inquired:

Me-"Sir, can you cut that weapon open so I can inspect the bolt?" (Weapon is understandably sealed to prevent such acts)

Cust Service-"Why would you want to do that?"

Me-"If I'm going to spend $1200 on a weapon I want to see the bolt."

CS- (to other CS Rep) "Can we cut that weapon open so he can see the bolt?"

Other CS-"No you cannot."

Me-"Well you just lost a $1200 sale."

I walked out, went to Guns Plus, who not only let me inspect the bolt, but let me manipulate the trigger etc all under the watchful eye of the CS rep, which doesn't bother me at all.

So Jim's lost a $1200 sale, potential range customer and any future business EVER from me, I dropped $1800 on a better weapon from a much better gun store.

So Jim's if you're reading this, customer service matters, it matters a lot, and yours f-ing sucks!

God bless the power of the internet!

No surprise at all.

I quit doing business with Jim's in 1994.

They have a lot of guns, but little customer service or business ethics.

Recently, he has been under fire from the ATF, but managed to retain his business, barely.

I went to their shop in Southern Pines today. Selection was low and prices (on everything) were outrageous.

I too quit buying from Jim's in 1994. The day after the Clinton ban, he cancelled all lay-aways, called customers and told them to "come get their money back, the weapons were no longer for sale", put a yellow polypro rope through the trigger guards of the weaopns on display (with a not for sale sign), and waited to see what the prices would stabilize at. About three weeks later he started selling the "pre-ban" rifles for 2 1/2 to 3 times their pre-ban price. I was exteremly disappointed when he got out of the Federal charges. Nuff said. I'm glad Gun's Plus met your needs. My personal preference runs towards Shooters or Ed's and I'm getting all my AR stuff from Del-Ton and tweaking it to meet my standards personally.

But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.

I've been a Shooters shopper for a while now and love that store, but so do a lot of other people, so they were sold out, so GP got the sale, and they made a pretty penny off of it.

I've had great results with Shooters, Eds, Carolina, and Youg Guns in Raleigh, but most of these shops I haven't used in years. GP is a good store, but they are priced high, however they represent and talk the talk when it comes to CS.

It was just my misfortune to have my gun buying coincide with the panic that hit the gun market, so I have to deal with it. I can only hope this blows over and the overproduction results in a market surplus that drives costs down, however I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

Thanks for the heads up!

I can't understand why they wouldn't let you look at / inspect the merchandise in question...that would be like a car dealer saying "No I am NOT going to let you start the engine--you can after you buy it"
