Remington UMC
I am getting ready to stock up before Obama taxes the living daylights out of ammo. Any thoughts on this brand? I'm getting .45 ACP, .40 S&W and 9mm Luger. Also will be getting .223, but not sure if they make it. It seems to be priced well and I have had good luck with Remington ammo generally, but not sure what the "UMC" means. Good reviews on web sites I've looked at.
Federal American Eagle is another possibility.

Check out this site. I've ordered lots and lots of bulk from here. Great prices.
http://ammoman.com/
Also, UMC is great practice ammo.... shoots clean

I have shot UMC before in .223, 40 SW and 9mm, I had no problems.
As rifle ammo goes, the last bulk of .223 I purchased was LC XM193 from Jason's Ammo in VA....nice guy and his prices are more than fair. Only catch with Jason is he only sells 7.62 and .223/5.56. Because his last experience with the ARFcomers, if you want his info PM me.
Other rifle ammo I had good results with was Ultramax 75 gr. HP. I have read some horror stories about Ultramax and Wolf, but personally I have never had a problem with either. On occasion, I find Black Hills White Box Mk262 at the local Cabellas which is really nice stuff. Privi makes some decent Brass Cased M193 and M855 Green Tip as well.

Sounds like I was lucky not to have any mishaps with the hundred rounds I shot.
Not sure how a good a deal it is, but Cabellas had a special on 100 rds. UMC 40SW 180gr. HP for 32 to 33 dollars and 250rds of Magtech FMJ for around 75 dollars.

I went with the Winchester USA, which has been just fine for my purposes. Great prices at Natchez right now.

That is where I do most of my non-surplus ammo shopping.
Ammoman is GTG as well, prices include shipping.

I previously used 9mm UMC hollowpoints in my carry weapon, but found that it would not reliably expand. You should look into reloading. With an inexpensive Lee progressive kit I have been saving anywhere from $60-80 per 1000 reloaded rounds.

I can not remember if the green and white box 55g 223 that you can get at walmart is Rem/UMC or not. If it is then it will not cycle a Mk18 unless you have the can on it.

Union Metallic Cartridge Company.
If you have the money you're not going to go wrong with a purchase of Remington, Federal or Winchester ammunition.
I've bought all threee for decades with no problems, make that zero problems.
You can go to Wal Mart and get all three and you can get it by the case there. You are not going to find ammo of better quality for the same price, not unless you do your own reloading.
If you decide to make an internet purchase of some off the wall ammo you had better do your due diligence first.

AMMOMAN.COM WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY NEW ORDERS AT THIS TIME
WE ARE SWAMPED
RIGHT NOW WE ARE ABOUT 3000 ORDERS TO FILL
THAT'S ABOUT A DAY OR TWO BEHIND FOR US
PLEASE BE PATIENT AND WE WILL BEGIN ACCEPTING NEW ORDERS SOON

I ordered with Natchez last Thursday or Friday, they sent me an email Saturday stating that they were out of the PMC Bronze, and asking me what I wanted them to do. I asked them for an alternative boxer-primed, brass-cased, copper-jacketed FMJ round in the same price range, and they came back almost immediately with the Remington, which was only 40 cents per box more, so I asked that they substitute it for the PMC. Got a confirmation within minutes, and shipping notification Monday.
Great company to do business with.
FYI.

Walmart:
100rds of .45 AUTO, 230 grain, by Winchester is $29.99
Remington 300 WIN MAG, 180 Gr, box of 20 was $25.99
Remington .308, 150 Gr, box of 20 was 23.99.
Gander not only price matched the .45 and 300 WIN MAG, but they also gave me 10% discount for the Military ID Card. Gander price for .45 was $49.99 and for 300 WIN MAG was $29.99.
I order my 6MM NORMA BR through Midway. It runs about $80 for 50 rds, when they have it in stock. Walmart beat Midway by $1.30 on 300 WIN MAG and .308 prices.

I get a lot of stuff through MidwayUSA also.
Edit to add, there's a big run on ammo, I've never seen midwayusa.com out of 5.56.
I'd better head down to wal-mart and buy a few cases....
