Digital Cameras

HELP !!!!

I recently purchased a new digital camera, a Kodak 10.3 megapixel, and I am having trouble downloading the pictures onto my computer.

I've uploaded the CD software that came with the camera, onto my PC, but it won't recognize the camera. I've plugged the camera into the USB port, but the PC says it can't "identify" it.

I've gone to my "Tools" section, and attempted to upload the "New Scanner/Camera" function, but there isn't a Kodak camera like mine listed. I knew this might happen, seeing that camera has just hit the market, but there isn't even a type of camera listed on the "default" area.

What am I doing wrong? What can I do to fix it? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Shutterbug in Need.

Windows 2000/Professional.

In fact, the CD that came with the camera says, that it doesn't "recognize" Windows 2000, but it will any before and after.

You may need to call Kodak support and verify that they do not support drivers for WIN 2000.

In any case, I have always found that using a small film reader that docks in the USB port to be less hassle. You can purchase one for under 10 USD.

Just make sure that it comes with WIN 2000 drivers..

If you and the kids don't all use the same film get one that reads 3,4,5,6,... types of digital film.

I like Canon and gave my kids Canons for Xmas,, Canon uses SD media for film,, I also use SD media in my cell phone and the kids use it in their MP3 players.. It's small and cheep..

Soooo,, I purchased a laptop (thinkpad T61) that has a SD card reader built in.

In your case the WIN 2000 is going to be the problem,, because of age..

Santa is comming...

Why not just bypass the hassle of software and drivers and use a multi card reader?

Not knowing your specific camera model, it is difficult to look up the specs for your specific camera. But I assume because it is a 10 mp camera that it records to some type of removable media.

A multi card reader is almost always USB based and does not require any software. Just plug your media cards into the appropriate slot on the reader. Your PC or Mac machine will see the memory card as another hard drive, and all of your pictures will be in .jpg format. Too easy and no software required.

Save that phone call to tech support at Kodak for something tuff.

Whew....lucky you don't have Vista.

I might suggest doing a Windows update and also checking the Kodak website for driver updates and/or downloading the drivers from the Kodak website and giving it another whirl.

Also double check every step on the install instructions and make sure you followed those steps during the install.

Thank you so much for the advice.

Went out yesterday and got a card reader at Best Buy, for around 15 USD, plugged it in this morning, and Voila, it works.

Now I can post pics of my Guns, Bike and Mountains.

Thanks again.
