Ghost Soldiers

I get all kinds of junk from vendors trying to buy my loyalty, but I just got something that I think I'm going to enjoy: Ghost Soldiers, by Hampton Sides. It is an account of the Ranger raid on Cabanatuan, which I read about in McRaven's case studies book.

Anyone read it?

I agree with Air damn good read

Very interesting style the story is told in as well

It's also in movie development hell at the moment. Rumors are that Tom Cruise is interested but that another movie about the same event has started production first

ok I'm late

I picked this up a couple weeks ago and read it in like 2 days. It had special meaning to me because one of my Grand-dads survived the "March" and the other....well, even my dad's not sure but when his (Grandpa 2) unit was cut-off (MI type) he had a cover story as the town butcher and my dad distinctly remembers him leaving for a few weeks at a time with a group of men. Been trying to determine what capacity he served but whatever it was I'm sure it was a good thing.

Minor hijack; CSM SF retired Galen Pappy Kittleson, was one of the Alamo Scouts on that raid, and on one I went on to rescue Nick Rowe in the U-Minh 65-66 timeframe, and on Son Tay, and on Desert Eagle.

He is the only American to participate in 4 POW raids.

And of course he is from Iowa!

The Military Channel recently (within the past week IIRC) ran a program on this and they interviewed some of the Rangers and former POWs. They seem to rerun programs, perhaps this will be the case for this one. It was very powerful...I think I will have to pick up this book.

Gypsy:

You can't go wrong with this book. Nancy read it prior to handing it over to me, and we both recommend it.
