Signs your bank is in trouble

Signs your bank is in trouble:
--The coins are made of chocolate
--Instead of cash, ATM dispenses IOUs
--Thanksgiving holiday extended to Easter
--Security cameras all point toward chief loan officer
--They start charging $1.50 to use the pen chained to the counter
--Tollbooth in front of the drive-up window
--24-hour ATM only works from 1am to 4 am --on Tuesdays
--Your safety deposit box is a Dunkin' Donuts carton wrapped in tinfoil
--Bank president's awkward call asking if he's in your will

Your new checks have the bank's name printed on the "Pay To The Order Of" line and "For Deposit Only" printed on the back. Their explanation to your inquiry is that it was merely a printing mistake and they will honor it anway so don't worry about it.

The sticker on the front window says "Insured by CDIC - Chinese Deposit Insurance Corporation, Ltd."

Your bank's new accounting firm's offices are located in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and Havana.

Your latest balance statement comes from a PO Box from some island you've never heard of in the Caribbean.

None of the tellers speak English.

There is a suspicious looking telephone company van with government license plates, windows that won't allow you to see inside, and half a dozen antennas on top parked across the street from your bank.

I see you guys have been to my bank!

That was before the crisis.

If you get back in, let me know, I have a check to cash.

turning humor button off here as this is critical info for me. Not a stockholder, but what happen to Wachovia customer with this Wachovia-Citi-WellsFargo merger? Should I withdraw all accounts, even paying penalty on CD, or just wait and see?

If the total in each individual owner's name is less than $100,000, it is covered by FDIC - so there is no reason to withdraw your money.

The bailout has provided a temporary increase in FDIC insurance to $250,000 through Dec 31, 2009. LINK. Per the Wall Street Journal, the President has signed the bill, so I suppose the higher limits apply at this time.

I hope that helps.

Guess I still have to keep my faith in FDIC.

As always, much appreciated nmap
