Anyone have a problem or see a problem with this short list??

Cabinet

Could never support Lieberman or anyone from Goldman. When the dust settles I think McCain would be wise to avoid any connection with them. Have always liked Armitage, he is a realist. Not real fond of Brownback either. I tend to view so called Social conservatives much like Barry Goldwater did.

McCain- Kissinger smacks of Bush- Rumsfeld, just don't like the mix, age aside.

Liberman as Sec Def, probably not...keep Gates if he will stay.

Really like Guiliani for Homeland Security.

There is likely a role for Liberman, chief of staff? May not be that good of a bull dog.

A concern about John Lehman

I believe John Lehman did stalwart work on the 9/11 commission. However, I don't know if he'd be the right man for the the position of secretary of defense in the current environment, especially so soon after Rumsfeld's tenure.

Documents in the operational archives at the Naval Historical Center have led me to conclude that rather than trying to build consensus, Lehman was more likely to attempt to intimidate and to insult people if they appeared to challenge his views.

As an example, in 1981, Lehman displayed significant hostility towards General Donn Starry. Lehman accusing him of 'gross parochialism’ and being 'obsessed with the central front.' In fact, Starry actually wanted the navy to have an even larger fleet and only sought a better understanding of how a revitalized navy would fit into a 'balanced global strategy' [Lehman Papers, box 14, folder 5].

If Lehman was this confrontational with those who agreed with his views, what he'd be like with those who may offer dissent is anyone's guess.

I'd like to see F.J. (Bing) West get some consideration for secretary of defense.

I'd like to see J.C. Watts as White House press secretary. He'd eat the MSM for breakfast every day.

There is way too much conjecture there to bother getting excited one way or another.
NO ONE had Palin on his short list but she has turned out to be a clever choice so far. I'm going to give McCain, and not the blind pundits, the benefit of the doubt on this one.

I have a huge problem with Dick Armitage as SECSTATE. Schultz and Kissinger too.

Although Stanley Kubrick denies it, there are those who swear that the character of Dr. Strangelove (in the movie of the same name) was based on a Harvard professor that Kubrick ran into one night at a cocktail party as the thick-accented professor talked about nuclear war. I don't know, but they sure sound alike!

I do know this, Dr. K helped sell the South Vietnamese down the river.

Kissinger

I have aways thought Kissinger deserted our MIAa as well. Is this correct? I have read there were people who were believed to be alive and he refused to place them on the list of MIAs prsumed to be alive. Is this true? Your thoughts will be appreciated

Agreed...

Im ok with Brownback, but I think Santorum might be a better choice. But then, I don't mind social conservatives, since I don't see how one can hope to maintain the political and economic institutions without the social ones.

I like the idea of Kagan, but I cant see that actually happening. I really don't care for Lieberman having a cabinet position, but if we must Homeland Security would play more toward his "conservative" streak. I would rather keep him as a senator since Im sure he is as conservative as we can expect from that state.

To be honest, I wish we would just do away with about half of those departments.

Please, please, please, let them start with the Dept of Education! Have you ever noticed that the decline in public education fits in so nicely with the increase of the fed's involvement in same? It's no accident!

And, IMHO, Lisa Graham Keegan is a clown. She was one as our Superintendent of Public Instruction here in AZ.
