The Reason To Delay Air Force One...

I came across the following, and several searches didn't turn up a previous posting (i.e., Alaska, Eielson, Murphy). I thought others might find it worth reading.

Excerpt:

EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- I learned a big lesson on service Aug. 4, 2008, when Eielson had the rare honor of hosting President Bush on a refueling stop as he traveled to Asia .

It was an event Eielson will never forget -- a hangar full of Airmen and Soldiers getting to see the Commander in Chief up close, and perhaps even shaking his hand. An incredible amount of effort goes into presidential travel because of all of the logistics, security, protocol, etc ... so it was remarkable to see Air Force One land at Eielson on time at precisely 4:30 p.m.--however, when he left less than two hours later, the President was 15 minutes behind schedule.

That's a big slip for something so tightly choreographed, but very few people know why it happened. Here's why.

Thanks nmap!

I saw this a few days ago. Just a great story.

It would be nice if the mainstream media had the "professional journalistic" ability to cover this story, and get it out to the folks paying taxes and voting!

President Bush has done this since the beginning of the GWOT. I have friends at Bragg who have told me he will meet personally and privately with anyone who has lost a family member, and has done so every time he has shown up at Bragg.

This is the GWB people who don't know him fail to appreciate. As a member of Highland Park UMC, we got to see this side of his family on an on-going basis. A humorous story about that:

Our middle son was in confirmation classes with the Bush daughters. On the day of confirmation in the main chancelry, my wife asked, "Who would name their daughter Barbara Bush?"

I replied, "Dear, she's named after her grandmother."

My wife's silence was deafening.
