“Hollywood, Fla. - Leaders of a crime-plagued neighborhood near downtown are tired of talk and task forces. Instead, they're taking up arms and preparing to become a "lock and loaded" community. A number of residents have already signed up for courses at the 911 Store in Hollywood, a weapons shop and training center. The group has also been in contact with the Texas-based Second Amendment Sisters to teach them about gun laws.

"It is unfortunate, but it really has come down to this," said the association's president, Jack David, whose neighborhood is surrounded by cheap motels, slum apartment buildings and a large cluster of social service agencies.
Then group leaders reiterated a controversial demand to combine all the area's agencies — including the COSAC Foundation homeless shelter, several drug rehab centers and a soup kitchen — into a locked compound near the edge of the neighborhood. But city and police officials have rejected the notion of stopping people from walking around the neighborhood and forming a walled-in complex.”

Unfortunately, between the aclu and the PC crowd, the idea will languish for years before it gets public and political backing.

If I remember, Miami tried this in the late 70t's or early 80y's, with no success. I think it was Chrome Ave??

Now the front has advanced to Hollywood,, 20 miles in 20 years,, moving pretty slow???

In the Conch Republic, we also have a very large transient population that swells in the winter and taxes the local business. The Sheriff volunteered to set-up a couple 40 ft trailers in his parking lot, one for baths and one for potties,, for FREE.. The aclu got all over him for profiling and herding... The public golf course was having problems with people using the bushes and greens for toilets, to the extent that they purposely cut a hole in their perimeter fence and built a loo to try to stop the mess...

We look at the M.C.S.O. log, almost daily, to check for neighbors and friends who may have partied a bit to much... We see lots of repeat transients.

And occasionally some hi-profile celebs!!!

I wish someone would come up with a better mouse trap,, soon...

Might make a good Spike Lee movie,, up scale it a bit,, Say we use Staten Island,, no maybe Manhattan,, put barricades on the bridges and let the masses rule themselves??
