John McCain's VP pick
With the RNC a couple of weeks away, and McCain waiting until then to announce who his VP running mate will be, (as with BHO next week at the DNC), who do you think will be on the ticket with McCain?
We've been hearing, as of late, these names being thrown out....
Mike Huckabee
Joe Lieberman
Mitt Romney
....but I'd like to add these two names to that list....
Fred Thompson
Condi Rice
For me, I'd like to see Condi on that ticket. She would "trump" the Dem's "female" and "race" issues in one fell swoop. Also, she knows Washington and as SecState, she knows the issues.

Fred Thompson has said he wouldn't run for VP...
I like Condi. Wouldn't that just frost Hillary's ass?

Although I like Condi, McCain can't risk having anyone from this administration on his ticket if he is trying to seperate himself from Bush and Bush policies and not be seen as what the media is labeling a "3rd Bush Term" JMO.
I know I'll get smacked for this one, but I like Joe Lieberman, and that would really be a kick to the Dems. Pelosi has already come out and said he needs to watch his back. The only reason they all tolerate him is because he still votes with them a majority of the time and they need the votes right now. After the elections I have a feeling the Dems are going to have a supermajority in the Senate and he is expendable at that point. I have a feeling moving a little right of center would not be difficult for Senator Lieberman.
They are saying Obama is going to announce tomorrow. I think it will be better strategically for McCain to announce after that. May actually pull a little of the media away from Obama for a little while at least.
My bet is Obama chooses Biden.

IMO, McCain will be committing suicide if he picks ANYONE that ran against him during the primaries. There are enough people out there that hate the other candidates enough to not vote for him if he chooses one for VP.
Crist from Florida wouldn't be a good idea either. Guy is an asshat. His Amendment 1 has severely crippled FLorida's education department and all public services (PDs/SOs/FDs/etc).
He's better off picking someone outside of the box that is a well known "conservative" to sway those votes.
Just my .02.

This is true, but dayum IMO, she would be great in the VP slot.
Another name that I forgot to add to the above list, that's been thrown about is....Tom Ridge.
Would he also fit into that "being part of the Bush Admin" ???

I wonder if McCain is being "too nice" in waiting until the Friday AFTER the DNC.
Why wouldn't he do it the day before, on the 28th, the day BHO gives his acceptance speech at Mile High? (God, how I hope it rains that day....never thought you'd hear a Leg pray for rain, did ya ) Take some of the "wind" out of their sails, as it were.

Hey, if we start eliminating people because they are "asshats" (great word!) won't we have almost NONE to choose from in the political arena?

Call me silly but...
My guess is he is going to aggressively go after the center, believe it or not, my money is on Joe Lieberman (not saying I like it).
The senator (formerly Democrat, now independent) is actively campaigning for McCain, plus they have had a cozy relationship in the past.
Choosing Lieberman will piss off the base, but who else are they going to vote for? The goal in a general election is to get control of the moderate or middle ground--a hard core conservative VEEP would not do that.
anyway thats my $0.02 worth, time will tell.

I don't see McCain picking Lieberman.
Lieberman, with the exception of the GWOT, is as liberal as any other Northeastern Dim. If you recell, he was Kerry's choice as a running mate.
I think McCain is still worried about turning out the conservative base, as he cannot win without them, and he is a sufficient maverick by himself to attract most open-minded independents and undecideds without picking an out and out lib for the ticket.
Personally, I would see him looking for a conservative (and none of his opponents from the Repub primaries are true conservatives.
Ridge checks several blocks, but has baggage from the Bush administration, as well as being pro-choice.
Tough choice, and no matter who he picks, he is going to piss someone off.
The real issue is trying to pick someone with a squeaky clean record who brings in more people than he turns off, could be seen as Presidential if necessary, and who is acceptable to the POTUS candidate as a good, complementary subordinate.
I think Obama is going to pick Bayh, but I hope he picks Biden. That is a train-wreck waiting to happen. Too bad he didn't choose Edwards before the story broke.
Just my .02, YMMV.

My guess is they have at least 3 tubes loaded and will pull the trigger based upon what happens next week at the Clinton-National-Convention in Denver.

Ridge
Although Ridge was part of the Bush admin, I don't think most people identify him as closely with the Bush admin as they do Rice. Some Christian groups have already stated they could live with Ridge. Interesting story going around is McCain announces he only wants one term, paving the way for the Klintons to knee cap Obama setting up Hillary for the nomination in four years. Although, I think Hillary will try and sabotage Obama regardless. If Obama wins, which I doubt, Bill and Hillary become irrelevant. That is the one thing Bill and Hillary couldn't stand. I have always liked Ridge and would like to hear other opinions of him. Good, bad or indifferent. I am 100% convinced Crist is way out of the running.
