Sir,
I must humbly decline your gracious, invitation to attend your party for Fay. I'm a little tied up right now with an upcoming party of our own, here in Denver. (Which BTW, we got SNOW up in Mountains yesterday )
But thank you so much for the warm invitation. I've attended parties such as this in the past. July and September of 95, while living in the PH, we had a couple of blow out parties for Erin and Opal, that just happened to pass through. Such fun we had, too.
Aside from your list of items to bring, the one thing we found indispensable with our parties were, Chem Lights. We'd crack a few of those and hang them up in rooms after the sun went down, just for a little illumination. Just make sure someone brings enough batteries for them.
I do hope you and yours and your friends and all who attend, have a wonderful time.
Stay Safe.

Your going to miss a good party,, might be hot & sticky,, but fun..
We tried the chem-lite route,, my neighbor is a retired 06 RANGER,, bless his little hart.. He has handed out a bunch to the hood.. Worked well..
Most everyone has a gen-set to run their home. Some have the 12-15 KW units,, drink lots of fuel.. BUT You don't need much. I have a 2500 watt Honda 4-stroke, a full 2.5 gal tank will run 12-14 hours. I have set up my breaker panel so all my primary 120 breakers are on one leg of the house box. Besides lights, we run 6 ceiling fans, two frigs, spark for the gas stove/oven, and microwave. During Georges in 98 we run 13 days before they had the power & water back.. I changed oil every three days,, ran like a top..
As an aside, for those contemplating a big gen set. If you want LP, check with your local service provider on the storm priority list. Who gets any delivery??
Down here the county emergency management has a pecking order and private homes are not on the list. Hospitals, police, schools, grocery stores, gas stations, & shelters get all deliveries, until the all clear is raised.. Depending on the make/model a 500 gal tank might last 2-10 days,, if your lucky..
If anyone wants to watch, here is the KW NOAA radar. The 1st bands should arrive in about two hours..
If the loop doesn't come up live, choose: Short Range Images, Reflectivity, composit, loop

Don't forget plenty of Ammo and a quick Basic Marksmanship Refresher for the family. Save some Gator tail for the rest of us too.

Well, We just did the storm shutters, most are the accordion type, w/some panels on the small windows.
sure gets dark in here..
Finished the patio, dock, car port, filled up the car & truck, and a fresh supply of gas for the generator. Groceries & drinking supplies topped off, I hope.
All the tool batteries charged, emergency tool up stairs.
Only thing to do is pick up mom and button-up her place.
And the Touristas have been told to leave, Muy Pronto, Thank you very much..
We have been lucky, sence 1995, we have had 31 near or small storms and only two good storms, Georges in 98 and wussie Wilma in 05. Katrina ran only 30 miles North of us but was a just TS.. Lots of wind & rain..
A good storm is when our yard disappears??
Georges pushed 15 inches of water up the wall inside our enclosure. We didn't see the yard for 15 hours.
Wilma pushed 26 inches, but the water rose & fell in less than 4 hours.
Because we had the yard filled some before construction,, the dock surface, which at normal hi-tide is 30 inches above the water line,, was under four(4) foot of water during Wilma..
Looks like the track has moved to the West,, into the Tortuga's, that means we get the windward side like we did in Georges,, BUT they still are forecasting a TS (under 74 mph)..
Opps,, looks like we ran out of Limes..
NOT,, just joking,, Dinner calls..

Hope you have a good time and don't run out of ice

It's been raining most of the night,, grass needs it,,
Did you know the Keys are considered a Tropical Desert??
We average less than 3 inches a month,, 30+- inch of rain a year..
The rest of South Florida averages +60 inches..
We have indigenous cactus!!!! If you can keep the deer from eating it..
So,, Fay is slowing, not good, slow storms get fat and nasty.
KW NAS radar shows a massive rain front coming at us, but no warning boxes for tornado or lightening activity. That's good..
Need more coffee..

Raining hard now,, winds are still low,, 30-50 mph, No banding yet, just steady continues rains & winds..
I'm thinking the eye is about 35-45 miles South on a 180, heading NNW, should clear Key West in 5 hours.. It may run over KW.. to early to tell..
10 minutes ago NOAA spotted a tornado crossing BPK headed to Sugarloaf on the North side, hopefully it avoided homes..
Here are the NOAA Data Buoy markers, You can open each up and see the recorded wind speed and other marine data, current and back 24 hrs.
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/maps/Florida.shtml
We watch: SMKF1 - Sombrero Key, FL & SANF1 - Sand Key, FL. Each is about 10 from the house.
You can pull up any-n-all the coastal buoy markers,, even New York City,, if ya feel a need..
Our hi-tide was about 12:15 so I think we can say we will not be getting much of a surge. The dock is still out of the water.. that is good news...
I suspect the girls & boys in Tampa should be buttoning up,, and preparing for their party????

We just got our first rain band in central FL. Weather man says to expect 4 to 8 inches of rain here. I could live without that much rain.
