Linking up with a Brother!
We were recently in NYC where Nancy was a featured speaker at the WORLD SCIENCE FESTIVAL, prior to her going on stage we were in the "Green Room" with the other participants, one of whom was Michael York who was accompanied by his wife Pat.
I am usually a good boy at Nancy's events with a couple of notable exceptions, one being the 45 minutes we spent in Pres Clinton's Oval Office, the write-up is posted on here somewhere. This time I had an agenda, I wanted to link up with a Brother, a fellow VN Vet whose son is a serving SF soldier. So I left the GR to find an area where I could get cell phone reception, called my buddy and explained that Nancy was not due to be off stage until around 2100, but it was my intent to get over to his place as soon as we could afterward, even if it meant that we would forego supper and merely share a glass of something alcoholic. I got back to the room and Nancy announced that the York's had asked us to accompany them to dine. I explained that that sounded great, but that I had a previous engagement. I was to meet up with a buddy at his restaurant...That remark wasn't expected, finally Mrs York asked what kind of restaurant it was, I announced "Eclectic, anything you might want." With an obvious attempt to make peace Pat said "Well, why not?"
So, the event ends (LATE), we need to find a cab and head over to Tribeca, the organizers approached Nancy to inform her that she is scheduled for a short interview. I tell them "OK", but only if they will get the four of us transportation to a restaurant, agreed. So we arrive at the restaurant late, no other diners in sight. We are met at the door by my buddy, after introductions all around we are shown to a table, great looking restaurant. The Maitre D arrives with a wine list, Nancy looks over the wine list when the Chef arrives at our table. He presumes, correctly, since it is so late (it must have been 2200), that we wouldn't want anything heavy, and proposes a whole series of appetizers, that sounded good to everyone. The appetizers were perfect, a bottle of wine was consumed, and my buddy joined us at our table.
Pat asked how we knew each other, she was informed that we were both in VN, she exclaimed "Thank You, and thank God you both made it home safely." In the taxi ride back to our hotel Michael states that was one of the best meals he has ever had, we all agreed, and the Crab cakes were the best anyone had tasted. Michael said he intended to contact my buddy to extend his thanks for a marvelous evening!

It really was a great time, Nancy and Michael hit it off instantly. They had both "Read English" at Oxford, had had the same instructors, Nancy was an Eng. Lit. Prof. prior to attending Med school. Her field was Metaphysical Poetry, and she taught Shakespeare, Michael has appeared in a great many movies, but he's proudest of his Shakespearean roles on stage.
The restaurant and the food were outstanding...And I got to link up with a buddy!

....and deservedly so. A truly gifted Shakespearean Actor.
Sounds like you all had a great time.
Now, if we can get Chef Penn to post up his Crab Cake recipe (I love Crab Cakes), that would be awesome.
