MEMORIAL DAY & RAY CHARLES

Was at my shop listening to my favorite "Oldies" station on the radio, (cause Im really old!) When the D.J. started playing older patriotic songs. He played America the Beautiful by Ray Charles. The song starts out in the 2d verse, and adds something for every American to ponder:
Quote:
O beautiful for heroes prov'd
In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life.
No body can say it like Uncle Ray:

swpa19,

What's wrong with our patriotic attitude today? Our people don't believe in America like they did in the 40's.....Standing up when the flag marches by,good old hand over the heart and saluting patriotism, just doesn't mean much in America anymore....Try this, ask some one to sing America with you and see what happens.... If after you've sung it, should you happen to have a little tear in your eye well than thank God for you because you still are an American.........

GBTFS:

We're about the same age (although you do have a day or two on me) but, thinking back to just what has changed since we were young.

You ever try to get into a convenience store when a young person was entering or leaving. They'll knock you over, because THEY are the important ones.

If I ever did that in the presence of my parents, they jack slap me so hard my eyes would cross. I BETTER hold that door for my elders and adress them as maam or sir.

And dont even think of keeping your hat on during the Star Spangle Banner. Cause the person standing next to you man or woman would "help" you remove it.

At that time a Soldier was someone to be admired and emulated. We sure as hell didnt need the POTUS telling us to respect the servicemen and women during the Memorial Day Hollidays.

Although Patrioitism is making a small come-back, respect has a long, long way to go.
