I purchased this DVD set for my Dad's B-Day earlier this year. He is a WWII Pacific Veteran. I just picked up another copy for myself.
Just one Soldiers life is precious. But when I watch the stories about single battles in which we lost 30,000 Soldiers. I wonder if we have the resolve today to bear the same sacrifices.
If you liked Ken Burns the Civil War you will enjoy this the same. A lot of never before seen footage. How anyone can watch this and still believe dropping the Atomic Bombs was wrong is beyond me.

I don't believe we do.

It was an amazing series. All the documentaries he makes are very well done.
I wonder what he's going to do next.

As someone whose father was in the forces slated to invade Japan, I have never doubted the wisdom of the decision to utilize the A-bombs. A History Channel show not too long ago detailing Japan's chemical and biological weapons development and intended use upon our west coast - by way of "submarine aircraft carriers" further convinced me that the decision was valid.

What is also mentioned in the series is the millions that were still under Japanese occupation and enslavement throughout manchuria and indochina. We also saved perhaps millions of Japanese who would have died had we invaded and of course, our own troops. My Grandfather being one of them.

Revisionist like to rationalise many of the realities faced by Truman to paint a different reality but dropping those bombs was absolutely the correct thing to do. I just wish we had held Japan more liable for their war attrocities than we had.
