World Food Stocks

An interesting article from any number of angles.

Most notible for not mentioning countries like Zimbabwe and why they went from exporting food to the brink of starvation.

The difference between North and South Korea is just a line in the sand and political rulership. The north side of the line starves while the south side does very well.

Interesting timing on the article.

Just read a similar one in The Economist...online version follows

Food prices

Cheap no more
Dec 6th 2007
From The Economist print edition

Rising incomes in Asia and ethanol subsidies in America have put an end to a long era of falling food prices

food

Good to see they seem to be rethinking some of the food aid programs. At times they have done more harm than good. Teach a man to fish......

I ran into a what trader in an airport bar. The worry with them is that the USGOV is going to step in and cap wheat exports. He said 'ending stocks' of hard red and white wheat are at 35-year lows, and we have essentially three weeks of soybeans on hand. Wheat went over $10/bushel yesterday, kinda like $100/barrel oil.
