POSTED: 7:01 am EST November 13, 2007
UPDATED: 7:26 am EST November 13, 2007

FREDERICK, Md. -- The Walter Reed Army Medical Center commander who was fired this year following revelations of substandard conditions for patients has been named the new commanding general at Fort Detrick in Frederick.

According to an Army news release, Maj. Gen. George Weightman will also take command of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command, which is headquartered at Fort Detrick.

Weightman replaces Col. Jonathan Jaffin, who has held both commands since March 3.

Weightman was fired from Walter Reed on March 1 and was replaced by Maj. Gen. Eric Schoomaker, who until then held the Fort Detrick commands.

Since March, Weightman has been assigned to the Office of the Surgeon General, in Falls Church, Va.

Accountability? Did someone say accountability? I didn't think anyone said accountability. No, no accountability
