Talking AN/PRC-148 antenna

Gents,

I built a antenna for the AN/PRC-148 this week and just wanted to share it with y'all. It's a sub for the whip and covers 30-88 mhz. It can be woven through you rba therefore no more whip to get in your way. The guys at work want me to come up w/a power point to teach the "studs" so once I do so I came send it to whomever wants it. Very simple and cheap...... but not #12 crayon proof (18B)

You can fix stuff like that with the Edit button in the lower right corner of your post screen.

That's good stuff. That whip is a PITA.

Doing a .ppt is a good idea. I'd be interested in that.

thx

No rush. I'm not downrange or heading there again imminently. Just interested in your good idea and will pass it on to those who I know who might could use it.

I would definitely appreciate a .ppt on building the antenna. As a relatively new 18E, I'm always up for learning new things. Looks great and anything that will keep the whip out of my way is a good thing.

Thats an understatement brother...

Even though I am not an Echo, I would like the .ppt to pass it on to my Echo's.

Thanks,

148 antenna

Thats great. Would you be able to email/PM me when ya get the .ppt's?? I can forward it to the 18E comittee to share the wealth. It looks like a worth while antenna. Maybe they can make it in their "Field Maintenance" class.

thanks

Another option which we do on my team is have EMS build a COAX extension that routes from the radio and onto the back of the body armor. This is then attached to a blade antenna that is wrapped into the body armor. I stay away from this set up as it hinders the transition from body armor to chest rack.

first off not sure why your echo's aren't building the coax themselves..... i know we always had extra coax on my team. with this antenna you can route it through your kit and leave the area open where the rba opens up at. plus you can build enough of them to go on whatever rig you have. i know with different companies its always a different way to get it on and off. also it saves the long whip from getting beat up. i'm not sure of the price of the long whip but i'm sure it's alot more the this little easy to make antenna. also when your 18b's break it, it's no biggie
