The nuts from Westboro Church got hit with a big judgement.
For being "Broke" the nuts sure get around the country with no problem.

Hopefully they they can enforce this judgement on the entire 75 members.
Stay safe.

Yes...they make their money mostly from lawsuits.
Good for the jury, glad to see this decision. I've no doubt there will be some bogus countersuit filed by these scum-of-the-earth-no-good...you get the idea.

I don't get it.
If these nuts are going off over gays, why don't they protest at gay weddings, AIDs funerals, Gay Pride Parades, etc.?
Why have they chosen to protest at the funerals of fallen (non-gay) soldiers?

Fred Phelps
There is absolutely nothing rational about this group. There is only room for their interpretation of the Bible. Interestingly, Fred Phelps is a former attorney for the Justice Department Civil Rights Division or a ACLU lawyer, I forget which

Good point. So any awards they receive will be tempered by the fact that they have this suit over their heads.

It's nice to see that the courts ruled against Phelps and that the father is getting at least some compensation out of them. Sadly, I don't think it will do anything to stop their protests.
Mr. Snyder is actually from my hometown (York), but I wasn't aware that Phelps had protested at the funeral. The Westboro church did come to my old high school in York to protest last year... quite a charming group of people, especially in person

In my opinion, these is not a church but a cult. I have tried, and cannot even begin to understand their thought process.

Because there would be no media exposure protesting at weddings, etc., and Fred Phelps is a media whore.

Because when you get right down to it they are nothing more than attention whores, and protesting a Military funeral gets them more attention than protesting at a gay wedding.

Growing up in Kansas, I was exposed to this cult of loonies. They used to protest Washburn University on a weekly basis. To answer TR’s question:

They do all of that too. Or at least used to. A few years ago they were at Gay Pride in San Francisco and the SFPD pulled their protection detail. Felt they were inciting violence and told Phelps the SFPD would no longer be responsible for his safety. It’s my understanding that the good folks of the Westboro Baptist church couldn’t get back in their vans quick enough…
Hope these dirt bags finally get shut down for good.

Even the Branch Davidians had more sense than this group.
If they want to protest at a soldiers funeral under the guise of the 1st Amendment and freedom of speech thats fine, but it doesn't mean that we can't have 200 Harley Davidsons in front of them reving their twins holding large American flags in front of them.
I believe we've earned that right as well as they have.
