Sounds like you should have started the process with a little research.

Someone really needs to get a grasp on who gets these 18X contracts. You aren't the first 18X who has no clue what he has gotten himself into.

Therein is the problem. IMO 18X candidates should have to interview for the contract, not just sign on the dotted line. As well, recruiters shouldn't be getting incentives for them enlisting. I am only a new graduate but some of what I see coming thru the Course disturbs me sometimes. I understand the recruiters have a job to do and I am not faulting them per say.

Unless the recruiter:
1. Has an idea, whether through personal experience or 2nd hand via talking with those who have personal experience... or,
2. Actually cares enough to point the applicant in the right direction for the research...
Uninformed applicants will continue to get 18X contracts as long as they qualify on paper. USAREC has 18X as a special contract so recruiters may be eligible to qualify on the battalion level for incentives.

I don't know about recruiters getting paid extra...

In the NG: The majority of 18X go thru a selection/interview process.

Stay safe.

Looks like we are off topic on the Intro thread again.

Crip, since you are involved in this one, make another thread, if you would.

And unless something has changed, I believe recruiters do get special pay.

Recruiters do indeed get Special Duty Pay as well as the ability to claim up to $75.00 per month for general expenses (ie taking an applicant to lunch).

The incentive for an 18X contract is not always there. As with most incentives in USAREC, they come and go depending the needs for the next month or quarter. A few months ago the incentive put out by a Company Commander for an 18X contract was a 4 day pass... actual time off is a commodity that is almost priceless in USAREC . Right now I'm enjoying a rare long weekend, 3 days off for Labor Day
