Wasn't he on paid suspension all these years? Now that he is fired he can go on the speaking tour to promote his future books. This guy has been rewarded for his actions.

From the article: he misrepresented the effects of federal laws on American Indians, that he wrongly claimed evidence indicated Capt. John Smith exposed Indians to smallpox in the 1600s, and claimed the work of a Canadian environmental group as his own.
So he falsified research and committed plagiarism. That should be the kiss of death for an academic. Hopefully, his future career will involve asking whether customers want fries with that.

I heard that the haters over at the ACLU already have his back and are working a suit on his behalf.

I wonder if any Native Americans back the hate filled ramblings of this idiot who claims to be one of them? My guess is they refuse to bring shame upon the tribe.

I believe that Russell Means was accompanying Ward Churchill at the hearing.

The A.I.M. (American Indian movement) has taken up a position of support with Churchill, of which Russell Means is still very active with. (Don't know if he's still president of AIM, or just what his position is with them, but he still very active with the group).
Here's something from The Rocky Mountain News (this story is getting A LOT of air time and press around here). I love how some of Churchill, and some of his supporters respond to criticism and voice their opinions.
Yep....these are the professors that are teaching the youth of America today.

Churchill, protesters vow fight is not over
By John Ensslin, Rocky Mountain News
July 24, 2007
BOULDER - Moments after the University of Colorado Regents voted to fire Ward Churchill, one of his supporters at the back of the Glenn Miller Ballroom shouted out, "Now it’s your turn!"
"You’re right," Churchill replied just before joining in with several American Indians from South Dakota as they started drumming and chanting the freedom song from the American Indian Movement.
Several of Churchill’s supporters decried the regents’ statements that they were dismissing him for a pattern of academic misconduct.
"I want to be clear," said Tom Mayer, a CU-Boulder sociology professor. "This is a political firing with academic camoflage.
"I believe the people who voted (to dismiss Churchill) are the same people who would have voted against Socrates, Galileo ... and anyone else wth an unpopular point of view." Riiiiiight......'Ol Professor Tom sure knows his history of Galileo and Socrates.
Lane said the only surprise of the afternoon was Regent Cindy Carlisle’s lone dissenting vote against the motion to fire Churchill.
"The only surprise to me was that it took as long as it did and we got one vote," Lane told reporters. "I’m always surprised when somebody stands up and does the right thing."
About 100 supporters had sat at the back of the ballroom waiting for the regent’s decision. Some stood for more than two hours holding signs that read "Reinstate Ward Churchill" and "The Student’s Vote: Ward Churchill - Best Professor 2005."
Phil Weinstein, a research assistant in the CU Civil Engineering department, help up a sign that read, "Honor Dissent."
"We’re only asking the questions that are not allowed to be answered in polite American discourse," Weinstein said outside the student center earlier in the afternoon. "The university should be protecting Ward Churchill’s free speech, not purging him."
Churchill walked up to the University Memorial Center around 3:30 p.m., carrying two long poles that were never used during the rally.
Lane joked, "Ward is polling the regents."
While waiting to get into the center, Churchill traded jibes with one man who snapped pictures of him and asked, "I heard you were a fake Indian!"
"I heard you had no brain and you were still looking for it," Churchill shot back. Way to bolster support for yourself there, Ward,

So, it looks like this thing won't end for at least, another year.

Churchill lawyer sues regents over yesterday's firing at CU
By Rosa Ramirez, Rocky Mountain News
July 25, 2007
The next chapter in Ward Churchill’s saga has officially begun.
His attorney, David Lane, filed suit in Denver District Court this morning as an amendment to a case filed last year.
Churchill was fired by the University of Colorado regents Tuesday on an 8-1 vote.
"If you think I’m the endgame, you’re wrong," Churchill told supporters Tuesday, shortly after his termination.
In the complaint, Lane argues the university used pretext reasons for starting a series of investigations looking into Churchill’s work.
The lawsuit contends the university went after Churchill after he was blasted in the media by commentators and other people for his op-ed article in which he called victims of 9/11 attacks "little Eichmanns," comparing them to Nazi bureaucrat Adolf Eichmann.
The article, which was written shortly after the 2001 attacks, got little attention for nearly three years.
As soon as the op-ed piece came to light, university officials immediately cancelled a speaking engagement Churchill was invited to give at the school’s University Memorial Center and begun to examine "every word ever written or spoken by Professor Churchill in an effort to find some excuse for terminating his employment ... ," the complaint said.
CU officials, however, later ruled that Churchill’s essay was protected political speech under the U.S. Constitution.
Hours before Churchill was fired Tuesday, Lane announced he planned to file a civil lawsuit in a Denver District Court rather than in a federal court because federal courts are "inundated with cases."
Lane said he predicted it would take about a year to get a trial.
He also said a jury pool in a Denver District Court would be more representative of the overall population.
"The minority population of Denver is much more greater than it is in the northern tier or Colorado generally," Lane said yesterday. "But I’m not reading into that anything in particular. That is the demographic fact of life."
The 2006 suit claimed the university failed to pay $20,000 owed for Churchill’s attorney fees, Lane said.
Lane said the suite was filed in Denver because the university’s headquarters are in that jurisdiction.

Here are the charges, CU's regents filled against Churchill, for his dismissal.
There is nothing stating anything, about his essay he wrote, after the attacks on Sept. 11th, were he called the victims "Little Eichmann's". Comparing them to "Nazi's".

The charges against Churchill
July 24, 2007
Behind the move to dismiss Ward Churchill are questions about the accuracy and integrity of his scholarly works. Findings of a faculty investigative committee released last year:
Historical facts: Churchill manufactured events in which European Americans intentionally spread smallpox to kill Indians. In one such event, the Army is said to have distributed tainted blankets to Mandan Indians. But no evidence backs the claim.
Elsewhere, Churchill claimed the United States adopted a formal racial code to identify Indians, similar to the code used by the Nazis to identify Jews. U.S. law includes no such code, legal scholars say.
Plagiarism: Churchill published an essay on water issues in Canada that closely resembles a pamphlet by a Canadian environmental group. He also borrowed a work on fishing rights originally published by Canadian scholar Fay Cohen.
Falsifying sources: Churchill wrote essays under the names of other people, which he then cited as independent sources in his footnotes.
The investigative panel described the charges as serious.

I guess it is fortunate that if you are idiotic enough to say something really disgusting like the above you probably lie, cheat, fabricate and plagarize too. I suppose it is akin to stopping someone for speeding and then having probable cause to search their vehicle for pot when you smell something funny. I can't imagine he's got a leg to stand on - but he's still in the limelight and that's got to be what he wants.

"Protect his free speech" What, to steal someone elses work? To claim to be an Indian when he actually isn't?
Sounds like he's crying the blues because he lost his cushy job.
