Balancing

I was interested to know what the pros and cons are to counter-balancing a knife. I wasn't really sure if there is a huge advantage or not and the knives I've had that weren't balanced we're not heavy enough or akwardly balanced enough to make much of a difference. Is it more expensive or more difficult to do? Just interested. Sorry if this is a bit of a novice question, the search didn't tell me anything.

While we (Special Forces soldiers) will assist a high school student with a paper on freedom and what we do to defend it we will not give advice to high school kids concerning weapons, period.
