Does anyone have a spare M249 I can borrow...

As many as 250 members of the Hell's Angels motorcycle club will be meeting in Williams for the weekend of May 18 and 19.
Local law enforcement agencies will be increasing staffing in order to assist the personnel-strapped Williams Police Department, according to law enforcement officials.....
|
So, does anyone have a spare M240 or M249 I can borrow for the weekend of May 18th - 20th?
Don't get me wrong I have nothing against people who ride. I just have a problem with outlaw motorcycle gangs. And we are expecting PROBLEMS.
In case any of you are planning on visiting the luscious town of Williams AZ on the weekend of May 18th I would stay far away from the area.

Joe:
I have attended the annual bike rally in Myrtle Beach, SC for the past 20 years or more and the HAs have a big presence there at that event.
On occasion, I have sat at a bar with some of them. A few guys I know have joined the club. A buddy of mine stopped Sonny Barger outside a restaurant in Arizona one day on his way to Sturgis and chatted with him. No trouble.
The only problems I have ever seen with the Angels are usually centered around dumbasses provoking them, and other MC clubs getting into turf wars with them. They are not out to confront LE, but if another MC Club shows up that they are having a disagreement with, they will go after one another hammer and tongs, ala Laughlin a few years back.
Not saying that they are model citizens or are not involved in some shady business, but by and large, they are not inciting trouble except in the above circumstances.
Best of luck, be safe, and keep your eye out for small problems before they get big.

Oh thank you and god. I was hoping you were available. I'll check into getting you a "ride along" with me that weekend.

By and large I completely agree with your assessment. Our only issue will be if some enforcement action needs to take place and the HA's want to stand up for there brothers.
I share your thoughts on keeping small problems small before they esculate. Fortunately, cops around here are not used to working in non-permissive environments. As such that leaves a lot of LEO's lacking the necessary tact it takes to negotiate certain situations that may arise.
Either way it should be fun.

I did a few of those Easy Rider security gigs before. Always had trouble with the locals. Think I did five of them, can not think of one fight incident with a gang member/Biker. Bikers tend to police their own.
I do think the Camp Grounds should be declared Restricted Bio Hazard Area for at least five years afterward. I couldn't come up with the debauchery I witnessed, if my life depended on it.
" Roger, I copy, as long as the Dog is not hurting her we are not to intervene, Over"
I also did the Myrtle Beach security. During the other Biker Week. Most of the Restaurants/Bars closed down the second day because of the stealing and skipping out on checks. Hotels had to use male waiters only. Waitresses refused to work because of harassment. Go figure it became a Race issue and lawsuits were brought against the businesses. Businesses beat it and most close the entire week during this Biker Week.

Now that has all of the under tones of one of the sickest things I can think of.
Otherwise good to hear that they police their own.

Here is another example of how to get into a fight.
HAs rent the Holiday Inn in MB for Bike Week.
Prospects (probationary members) pull shifts at the entrances to the parking lot to prevent bike thefts, act as perimeter security, etc.
Pimple faced 18 y/o kid goes strolling right by the front of the Holiday inn with his girl on his arm, and wearing a leather jacket he had the HA logo and colors airbrushed on earlier that morning. For the unfamiliar, this is akin to some punk showing up at an SFA convention wearing a beret and cammies with all of the SF patches.
Prospect asks him what chapter he is with. Kid doesn't know what a chapter is. Prospect asks him to take the jacket off. Kid refuses. Prospect explains that he will have to help him take the jacket off if he does not. Zit boy tells the prospect that he can't make him take it off. Cop standing on the same streetcorner (to prevent trouble) steps in and tells the kid that if he is going to insist on an ass-whoopin', he (the cop) is going to go on break and will write up a report when he comes back. The kid did take off the jacket, but was bitching about it the whole time.
Now the point of all this was that the kid could have worn whatever he pleased past that hotel, as long as it did not have the club colors on it. He could have worn the jacket pretty much anywhere he wanted without anything being said, and chose to parade it past the one place in the whole area where it would be a problem. The prospect asked him to take it off nicely, and he refused. This was somebody who was looking for an introduction to trouble, and was ready to accept it. You just can't fix stupid.
Yes, I am aware that this is a free country, but going around looking for creative ways to piss off the thumpers is a bad idea, I don't care who you are. That and why someone would want to pretend to be a member of a club like that it beyond me. I don't do stupid stuff in front of cops, look for the biggest guy in a club to walk up to and slap, wear shit I didn't earn, and I don't flip off groups of bikers I don't know. I do understand respect, and courtesy. If a biker started trouble with me or put his hand on a member of my family, that would be different. But that very rarely happens.
They have their share of knuckleheads as well, and have shot it out with some rival gangs during the rally before, but the odds of a citizen on vacation who is minding his own business getting ambushed by a real biker is extremely low.
I know exactly what you mean about the second bike week. I used to go for both, and the difference was remarkable.
Just my .02, YMMV.

Had the pleasure of working the HA world run in Gunnison Colorado a couple years back. As well as a couple of swap meets in Colorado that are attended by rival OMG's.
I was also present for the world run in Breckenridge several years back.
It is interesting how the new generation rides crotch rockets and dress in a hip hop fashion. It just does not seem right.
Being a class clown, I love to roll up on the prospects outside the hotels and try to strike up small talk. Smokin Joe: if you want a laugh roll up to a group and play Barney Fife and make some comment like...............so where you from?
