Rx Goggles
I need a pair of goggles for some upcoming training and haven't found too many threads on the topic.
Usage on this trip will include convoy ops and MOUT training.
My selection criteria, in addition to quality and durability, are:
- Rx insert available
- NVG compatible
- Good ventilation
- Clear & smoke lenses included
Price is not a primary consideration, but I don't want to spend more than is really necessary. So far, I am leaning toward the ESS Profile NVG goggles reviewed elsewhere, but have any of you tried something else that I should consider?

I have Oakleys, ESS, Revision, Wileys, some Italian jobs, and a couple of others.
My reconmmendation is that you get your hands on them to try before you buy.
The prescription lenses are very expensive and there is no point in paying twice. The multi-lens sets are common for all of them.
Ten people have eleven different opinions about what fits best and is most comfortable.

Well, I must have unwittingly accumulated some good karma because I've been contacted by two readers of this forum who want me to have free goggles with prescription inserts.
I will post back with a head to head review of the ESS Profile NVG's vs. the Revision Desert Locusts.

as one who has been cursed with bad eyesight (i don't like contacts and don't want to do lasik just yet), goggle options are limited to OTG (over the glasses) or prescription inserts. i liked the fact that the insert is interchangeable between the sawfly and the locust, as the sawflys are what i wear for shooting. saved me some money there. since i wear glasses all the time, i lean toward goggles that fit over my glasses so i can take off my goggles and not be blind. the ones with a foam face seal work better with eyeglass temples.
i don't really have frequent use for goggles being a civvie - the only time is if i'm shooting/camping out in the desert or at the range and the wind kicks up. i've also worn them on snow hikes to when the wind was just too cold for regular eyeglasses without side protection.
but no matter which goggle i use, OTG or prescription inserts, and how good the anti-fog coating of the main lens is, the inserts or glasses worn underneath are the weak link i've found. i'm not sure if anti-fog coating is available on regular prescription glasses or inserts - they weren't when i had them made. since they're closer to the face than the goggle lens, they're more prone to fogging under exertion. when the temperature finally equalizes, the fogging clears.

I will post a more thorough review with pics when I return home, but so far I am much happier with the Revision Desert Locusts. The goggles themselves are virtually identical to the ESS Profiles, with only stylistic differences, but the insert system is far superior.
The ESS insert is very fragile and does not secure well in the goggles. It is an example of very poor design. When firing crew served weapons and crawling around a turret, the insert has popped loose multiple times, resulting in a loss of clear vision with a hot weapon in hand. Not good. The design also requires a high-index polycarbonate lens and specialized grinding, making them very expensive.
The Revisions, on the other hand, use a conventionally shaped insert and secure very well inside the goggles, even incorporating a pad made from some sort of sticky compound to keep them from shifting. The lens does not make contact with my face, unlike the ESS Profiles, reducing the amoung of sweat running through my field of view.

Good day, just a note to let you know RX goggles and eyepro are inthe final stages of testing now and should be on contract this year ready for you to start ordering. btw, the non rx is beig tested side by side, will come back when the final SOCOM approval is done and let you know how to get them.
