NOTHING!

It's New Jersey! Everybody gets sued, no one gets punished. Unless you hit Tony Soprano.

This whole thing is a total crock of you know what. People are seriously injured on NJ state roads every damn day, yet they have the State Police turning over every rock looking for the driver of that red truck as if the driver was Osama Bin Laden. Two years ago a young mother was killed on the GSP in a hit and run accident. It's too bad the NJSP didn't expend 1/10 the same resources to find the guy who killed her.

I want to know why the Gov and his driver were not cited for failure to wear a seatbelt. Stupid is, stupid does.

Corzine might have been uninjured like the other occupants of his vehicle, had he been wearing a seatbelt like his driver and aide.

Knowing Corzine, the likely origin of the hit and run driver, and that no one else was hurt, I think the whole thing is funny as hell.

Hey, how can an LEO and PSD guy allow his charge to ride around in an unsafe manner and in flagrant violation of the law he swore to uphold and not be compromised?

Could be worse, could have been McGreevy!

Surgery on Corzine Deemed Successful; Driver Who Hit Him Had 'Special Needs'
Saturday , April 14, 2007

CAMDEN, New Jersey —

Surgery on Gov. Jon S. Corzine's injured leg was successful Saturday, while a state official said the driver blamed for the wreck that critically injured the governor had been found but would not be charged.

Corzine's recovery was progressing better than doctors expected, said Dr. Steven Ross, head of trauma at Cooper University Hospital. Doctors cleaned a 15-centimeter wound during surgery on his left thigh.

The governor is not able to speak and not aware of his surroundings because of his heavy sedation. He is expected to remain on a ventilator until at least Monday, doctors said.

"He awakens, answers to simple 'yes or no' questions about pain," Ross said. "He won't remember much of what is going on at this point."

Corzine was hurt Thursday when the SUV he was riding in was clipped by a vehicle that swerved to avoid a red pickup truck that officials said was being driven erratically. Corzine's vehicle slammed into a guard rail along the Garden State Parkway in Galloway Township, near Atlantic City.

A state official who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity said Saturday the driver of a truck involved in the wreck that injured Corzine had been found, questioned, and would not be charged.

The official, who wouldn't be named because the official is not authorized to speak on the matter, said the driver, 20, who worked at an Atlantic City casino, didn't realize he had caused the crash and thought he actually avoided an accident.

He was described as a "special needs driver" who may have a mental impairment, the official said.

The driver was not identified because he was not charged, state police said.

Corzine — who was riding in a sport utility vehicle driven by a state trooper and headed to a meeting between radio show host Don Imus and the Rutgers women's basketball team — apparently was not wearing his seat belt, as required by law.

The governor's femur bone was broken in two places, and it protruded through his skin. He also suffered a broken sternum, 12 broken ribs, a head laceration and a minor fracture on a lower vertebra, according to doctors at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he was flown by helicopter after the crash. Corzine, 60, did not suffer any brain damage.

His injuries were not considered life-threatening, but doctors say the governor faces lengthy rehabilitation. And it will likely be at least three to six months before he can walk normally.

A similar surgery to clean out Corzine's femur was planned again Monday, Dr. Robert F. Ostrum said.

Tom Shea, the governor's chief of staff, said he was hopeful Corzine could resume his duties in "a week or so," depending on doctor recommendations. Shea said it was possible Corzine would govern from his hospital bed.

Corzine was moved to the trauma intensive care unit after surgery Thursday night and remained in critical but stable condition Saturday.

Senate President Richard Codey officially became acting governor Thursday evening after getting a fax from Corzine's office saying the governor had been injured.

Why the hell does he have a driver's license if he is mentally impaired?

I don't know, but licensing people who can't drive properly isn't limited to NJ. My mom is a teacher and one of her students has severe epilepsy and she has her license.

Same reason that a four-time DUI convict does - society sees driving as a right, and firearms ownership as a privilege.

Which kills more people every year?

Doesn't matter. You don't need a license to operate a motor vehicle. Most of the illegals and drunks are doing it without a valid license or insurance.

You are right as usual with regards to that... but the amount of illegals in alaska isn't quite as bad as the lower 48...

Who's going to run across the tundra, the canadians?

Quite a row from Cuba.

If someone wants to row/swim/walk from russia, they're a hard hard individual and I wouldn't mind having them here probably.

The legal drivers that do get DUI's, are severely hammered..

1st strike 3 days jail time 1500 fine, drugs to prevent alcohol consumption and 90 day minimum license revocation, ignition interlock required for parole, manditory alky clinic time, misdemeanor level infraction, paying for the cop and any emergency services required from the incident

2nd strike 20 days jail 3000 fine, drugs, same as above, minimum year licence revocation

3rd strike (within 10 years) 10,000 dollar fine, forfeited vehicle from incident, 120 days jail, Felony level conviction (and all that ties into that) permanent revocation of license for life, any co-owned vehicles have registration revoked and re-issued with drunk removed from paperwork (costs the co-owner money), 18 months Alcohol clinic time, restitution of anyone else involved in an incident, pay for the cop/ems/whatever, involved vehicle seizure and sale at auction (proceeds go to state and do not count against any fines etc)

If it's your first offense and you have .16 or higher, you WILL have an interlock for 6 months and it won't count towards parole

.24 BAC and you get the interlock for a year

Oh yeah, you pay for your jail time as well to the state, and if you refuse to test you have exactly the same punishment level.

Not to mention canada will not let you drive thru their country if you have a DUI, so there goes any chance of driving to the lower 48 via the alcan.

.04-.08 will count towards, with other evidence presented in court, towards a DWI conviction as well.

Under .04 you're "good"

That's a condensed snippet of what happens if you drink and operate any vehicle in alaska.. boats bikes trucks cars planes ultralights parachutes you name it if it moves and it aint feet it counts... LOL
