There's nothing "Grand" about liberal democrats, there in lies your answer. Visionaries are seen as quacks. That is until history dictates otherwise. As noted this may be only the third "Grand Plan" in the history of the U.S. since FD's post WWII strategy to open commerce, produce free trade, stengthen economies of ally's and free nations.
History rarely reads as having been friendly and wars have not been won by embargos. In this case, having an strong viable and economically stable ally right smack between Iran and Syria shouldn't take a Yale or Harvard scholar to enlighten anyone what the historical significance could be. The hard part is actually having the political stomach to accomplish this. Something the liberal democrats have never possesed.
