WASHINGTON —

A Pentagon investigation will recommend that nine officers, including up to four generals, be held accountable for missteps in the aftermath of the friendly fire death of Army Ranger Pat Tillman in Afghanistan, senior defense officials said Friday.

With that kind of rationale, tomorrow's story should be "Thousands of WWII vets to be retroactively held accountable for accidental fratricide incidents during war."

Most honest mistakes in life people are willing to forgive; maybe not forget but certainly forgive. It's the cover up or even an appearance of a cover up that gets people jammed up. Whatever the outcome may be it is tragedy...Tillman was an absolute stud. RIP Pat.

The media has created false expectations of a clean and bloodless war.

When that does not happen, people reach for their lawyers and they want blood. Heads must roll to satisfy them.

This is a tragedy that should not have occurred and the Rangers should have told the truth from the beginning. At the same time, it is war and shit happens. All we can do is try to see that it happens as infrequently as possible.

I didn't see a lot of reports about it, but at one point, the US Air Force had killed more SF than the Taliban. I didn't see too many people relieved over that.

We do the best we can with what we have. The point about WW II vets is well taken. Fratricide has always happened, and will always happen. We should keep trying to reduce it and to keep it from happening again, but it will.

The losses should never be covered up or lied about. Tell the truth, and let the consequences follow.
