Atlanta-area ranges?

I am in the Atlanta area for a couple of months and need a place to work out with carbine and pistol. Locating a good range has been difficult so far. My preference would be for the areas north of town, but I'll travel if I have to.

Any suggestions?

jatx, did you find a good range?

My RRA AR-15 came in, and I'm looking for a good place to send some rounds downrange. I'm used to the country where you can just step off your back porch and fire it up.

I'm a member at rbgc. It's a private club, high quality. You'd have to go with a member. I just started a new job, and my daughter is tying up the weekends on an all-star softball team here in Forsyth co., so it would be tough to get out in the near term. Drop me a PM, and lets see if we can put something on a calendar a few weeks out. I've got a new scope on a 7-08 that I need to sight in. In the mean time, there's a range in Dekalb county that's a 1/2 hour east of Atlanta on I-20. I have a friend that lives in Decatur that uses it. It's free, run by the Dekalb county PD I believe.

Thanks for the replies and PMs, all. I haven't gotten to look into half of the suggestions yet, but will be at Ft. Benning all summer and spending most of my weekends in Atlanta, so who knows?

Once again, thanks for the tips.

Shooting in Georgia

Well hell, if you're on Benning why don't you shoot at the Rifle and Pistol Club and at Easley and Maertens Ranges when Chattahoochee Rifle Club shoots their matches?

http://www.mindspring.com/~abodom/crc.htm

"RIFLE & PISTOL CLUB
The Fort Benning Rifle and Pistol Club is located on English Range in Building 8006, on Dixie Road across from Infantry Hall.

The club has 36 firing points for both rifle and pistol with a maximum range of 500 yards. The hours of operation are 12 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9 to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 12 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The Fort Benning Rifle and Pistol Club is a private organization sanctioned by Fort Benning. A yearly membership fee of $35 (which includes spouse and children under 18) is required to use the facility. E-4 and below have a membership fee of $24. Bonafide TDY personnel (includes IOAC/IOBC) may purchase quarterly or semi-annual memberships at $15 and $20, respectively.

The club has rental weapons at a very reasonable rate. A Combat Match, designed for both new and experienced shooters, using stock equipment, is held monthly. Special Training and Competitive Events such as the "Glock Match," "Gunsite Training Course" and "Ladies Only" personal protection course are held yearly. Rates are frequently at cost or free to club members. For information call 689-3371 or write: Rifle and Pistol Club, P.O. Box 51469, Fort Benning, GA 31905-1469."
