A few packing list questions

Hello gentlemen,

I am hurriedly getting my supplies together for SFAS in under a week and had a few quick questions regarding the packing list that I didn't see specifically addressed in any faq, sticky, or search.

I read to bring a carry on with minimum uniform and gear, but also read that only duffles or kit bags are allowed. Neither of these are suitable size for carry on and wondered what other options have been accepted or recommended. The only non-civilian bags I have are duffles and laundry bags.

Also, regarding the boots I notice it says no sport type boots, which I'm guessing is because of the soles. Does this also mean no sport type soles? If I had time to get my boots resoled, is there a recommended type of sole? (Edit: I'm an idiot and misread the packing list. Note #3 addresses the sneaker question. I was more interested in any type of different sole vs the issued sole, not necessarily sneaker type).

I sincerely apologize if these have been answered and I missed them in my search. I will continue to search through this great site until I depart.

It appears your first test for SFAS won't go well...follow the instructions and don't read into things or try to circumvent the instructions. Read note #3 again:

Roger...my aplogies.
Looks like what I read and what I thought were two different things. Looks pretty obvious now
Really, I just wondered if I should get my boots resoled in a different style, I wasn't necessarily interested in sneaker style. However, this type of question can probably be answered on my own.

Thank you.

Loki, I am going to the same class with you. If you are at Stewart as your profile suggests you should have a mandatory telephonic outbrief with the SF recruiter Jan. 11, a good time to ask these questions. Or call and ask him to fax you a copy of the PP outbrief. Your questions will be answered in it.

I have had success with the vibram sierra sole.

Boots and bags

Half of all tests in professional military life are based on the ability to follow simple instructions. Don't overthink.

Also, I like waffle soles, but I don't think you have time to break in anything new. If you use them and you are a bigger guy like me you have to watch your balance on the downhills with a rucksack.

Good luck to you and all the best.

Good advice coming from a Marine Reservist. (Next time you might want to check the dates the individual posed the question...... )
