Nagin contrite at New York's Ground Zero

NEW YORK (UPI) -- New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin has visited the memorial at New York's Ground Zero after calling it "a hole in the ground" on a national TV program.
He was accompanied Sunday by his wife and Deputy New York Mayor Kevin Sheekey, and did not speak to reporters, the New York Daily News reported Monday.
In a "60 Minutes" interview recently, Nagin was lamenting the slow rebuilding of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina struck in August last year.
"You guys in New York can't get a hole in the ground fixed, and its five years later. So let's be fair," Nagin said. Within two days, he issued a public apology and announced his intention to visit the site.
During the weekend, he held meetings seeking New York investors on plans to rebuild New Orleans.
One man visiting Lower Manhattan from Houston with his wife, told the newspaper Nagin was being disrespectful by being at the World Trade Center site.
"It's kind of ridiculous for him to show his face," he said.
