MRE/C-Rats Recipe Contest

OK, there were not enough entries to have two separate contests. This poll will be open for one week. Winner gets a prize.

Here are the choices:

jbour13's Cheesy Ham Casserole

Quote:
Mine is fairly simple and nothing special, but requires at least an MRE with ham slice (don't remember if it's made anymore?), 1 pack of buttered noodles and 2 packs of cheese.

Heat and mix all three main ingredients in the outer MRE wrapper to make a simple ham casserole. You can add tobasco if you'd like but this is not bad.

Simple Simon's Apple Cobbler

Quote:
Apple Cobbler: Heat one packet spiced apples, add one pack regular crackers(not vegetable), add 2 packets creamer, and 2 packets sugar, stir and add water for desired consistancy and to soften crackers, stir vigorously and you will think your back home eating you mother's apple cobbler minus the vanilla ice cream.

x sf med's Improved Beef Stew

Quote:
Now for an old MRE recipe:
beef stew, crushed crackers, cheese and tabasco - actually pretty good

Pete's Peach Pound Cake

Quote:
Since you drink your coffee black you have leftover creamer packs. Round them up.

Before you down the last of you coffee open up a pound cake and a can of peachs. May need to bring a buddy in on this in order to get both cans and extra creamer. Slice the pound cake thin, about four will do and lay out. Cover with the peachs. Mix the creamer with water until it looks like cream and pour over the peachs and pound cake. Enjoy.

Life don't get no better than this.

sf11b p's Philly Cheesesteak

Quote:
Philly cheesesteak

Pack beef slices, pack cheese, heat crush meat and mix with melted cheese and tabasco add pepper, spread over crackers.

Tex Tackleberry's Mexican Rice

Quote:
Mexican rice ,jalopeno cheese with apple sauce and the whole miniature bottle of Tabasco. MMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMM GOOD!

Had it while hiking the Appalachian trail up in Hamburg,PA(near the Pennicale).

QRQ 30's Cafe Mocha

Quote:
Unfortunately MREs weren't invented by the time I got out. I guess my AVATAR says it all. I do have one cecipe we used which worked real well in the cold, damp climate of Germany. We would pool all of our coffee, cream, sugar, hot chocolate and crumble the chocolate bars and cook into a real tatsy brew. Perhaps we were the forerunners of Starbucks. An additoion we added but I guess is illegal for the contest shot or two of rum.

Hate to say but...

Hate to say it but I was torn between the Cheese/Ham Casserole and the Philly Cheesesteak.

If the wife took off for the weekend I could eat either one of them while watching TV.

While I am somewhat inclined to re-open this poll since only 16 of you voted, x sf med is the winner. PM me your address and I'll send you your prize. Congrats!

RL-
Only 16 voted? Well, that's not too bad - we only had about 20 people on the original thread. We can re-open the balloting, won't hurt my feelings - because I expect you to send something like a couple of cans of Spam, which might relegate you to having Sabrett's on the street, and Schaeffer in a paper bag next time you make it to NY..... (construction worker fare, did it for a few years, big difference from a Burger and a Brooklyn Lager at the Iridium, which was the original choice for your next trip...)

Sorry I missed the poll, but if it was reopened, I would defintely have to go with Pete's pound cake. I should probably not post this, but I would have traded anything for either C-rat "scrambled eggs" (yes I know there was something wrong with me) or the pound cake. Still have my old "John Wayne"
