Border Patrol raises max age for new agents to 40...good news for military

The Border Patrol has just raised it maximum age limit for new agents to 40 from 37.

This allows many military retirees to now join the Border Patrol. All other federal law enforcement agencies have a max age of 37 due to mandatory retirement at age 57 with at least 20 years service. This rule effectively shuts out guys that joined the military at age 18 and put in 20 years.

Vacancy announcement can be seen on www.usajobs.opm.gov. The announcement opened today and closes June 26.

You might pass this along to anyone retiring soon.

Things must have changed. When I started the application process in 86 they would subtract your years of service from the age requirement so 20 years service and retirement at 40 + didn't effect them.
