Can anyone Spot the phony (ebay) Special Forces Uniform?

http://cgi.ebay.com/US-ARMY-SPECIAL-...QQcmdZViewItem

Why anyone would purchase anything from ebay is beyond me………

How SOupy can we be?

Let me count the ways...

SF Arrowhead patch upside down

CIB (with stars) without a combat patch

Officer wearing the "Bolo badge" (marksmanship)

Crossed rifles and US both misoriented

Won't waste the time to look at the awards to see the order they're in, other than to say he's got good conduct medals as an officer (he could be prior service).

Oh and Vietnam medals mixed with GWOT medals always raises an eyebrow...

I seem to recall a thread at SOCNET a few years back of a another classy Ebay uniform.

The jacket sleeve not only had Ranger and Special Forces tabs, it also had the Delta Force tab..

Army Chief of Staff hasn't even got that many ribbons. I've never seen that many . Further more, an LTC needed family assistance like this. Bogus.

I emailed the seller and asked them to cancel the auction. I also emailed the current bidders and advised them that it is a bad fake.

I know I don't post often, I am a lurker. But this crap is an outrage I also e-mailed him and told him in not so many words he was full of crap, and reported him to E-bay. What an idiot this guy must be to try to pass that crap off.

Never seen anybody with that many ribbons. This might be more believable if it hadn't been overdone and if glaring errors hadn't been made. I'm very surprised that this seller has a good "reputation".

The lack of a Class A name tag is particularly obvious to me.

Well, who ever said posers were smart ?

It is fraud, pure and simple. Unlike many eBayers who sell stuff as is, and for which caveat emptor applies, he is claiming this was actually his former CO's uniform. He is not the worst fraud out there, though, and there is some value to collectors in the uniform for parts, though I don't see much more than about $50 worth.

By the way, the lack of a name tag is the least of the issues. Many people keep personal things like name tags and name tapes when they get rid of uniforms.

Shockingly for such an otherwise crude fake, the ribbons are actually in order and not an impossible (in the sense of internally inconsistent) combination. It is just an unrealistic combination (how many DSC holders were POWs and Vietnam, Desert Storm, Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan veterans?) and inconsistent with the other stuff (a 2-star CIB would require service at least as far back as Korea). The use of devices is also haphazard - no palm on the RVN Gallantry Cross, no campaign stars on the Vietnam Service Medal, 4 JSAMs, no palm on the Kuwait Liberation Medal, etc.).

The most ridiculous thing, though, is the upside-down SF patch. How do you screw that up outside a Steven Seagal or Jean Claude Van Damme movie?

This guy is a rank amateur though. Some of the worst frauds in eBay militaria are dealers in fake named awards. Tom Lane of purplehearts.net documents a bunch of questionable groups here: http://www.purplehearts.net/id8.html
