Early Spring
Talk about shock and awe! I went to town today and was able to tell male from female residents as the parkas have finally come off a whole two month early. So, you say, is it really that unusual to tell the difference between male and female in Vermont? It is not only unusual among humans but even the animals get confused with sex and species and tend to comingle.

Sorry sir - If'n I didn't know better I'd swear that looked like ICE on the pond. You might be celebrating a little early. Just because drought conditions kept the snowpack down doesn't mean spring has sprung. Peregrino

That Ice looks like its melting very quickly. Too bad hunting season is over, those quail look very well fed!

I think the question is, "Is there a time which is NOT hunting season?"

Ahh yes! It goes along with one of the universal truths of the Great Northern Forest: If a shot is fired and a game warden is not around to hear it was it really fired at all?

I do believe that Spring has come to the North country. Y'day I was hiking and there were still ice patches in the stream, got some good (I think) photos, today the ice was gone. Ice still covers half the pond just up the road, but the peepers are singing away! Need to head over to Hanover and see how this years crop of coeds measures up to last years in terms of T shirt selection, amount of skin displayed, and overall conditioning.
OTOH, our winter SUCKED!!! I think I got out skiing eight times, less than forty miles total. In a good winter I do that in a week.

I only went downhill a few times when the conditions were "best" and even then the conditions were horrible during all but one of those times. What a crappy winter.

Ice is almost out and the frogs have decided that they aren't waiting any longer. Have a couple of hundred of the little critters raising a racket and they are mixed in among the ice chunks. Damn things are hard core.

That picture reminds me of January 1996 when Mott Lake froze over and we still had to run a Pre-SCUBA class. Our "tadpoles" didn't look nearly as comfortable as yours. Peregrino

My little piece of springtime...
If I may, I'd like to post a couple of pictures from my AO.
I have a little tree in front of my house. Every year, as though marking the beginning of spring, it produces a beautful set of pink/white blossoms. The local honey bees can't resist and for those two weeks, the front walkway hums with activity.
While I live in suburbia, if I stand close, or sit beside my little tree, I can get lost in a small piece of nature and forget the hustle and bustle of life.
