Looks like they have made DD-214's available online.

Not really. After all the forms, you still have to print out a document, sign it and mail it to them and they'll mail one to you. You never see the 214 online

It would be nice if the government would move into the 21st century with the rest of us.

Everybody that I've spoken with has had about a year + wait time to get theirs in the mail. Has anyone had any better luck?

About seven days, I mailed my request. My brother faxed his request and got his 214s in about five days. Did it last month.

You did it last month? It took me over a year to get my DD-215, I've never had to request a copy of my DD-214.

Yes last month. I couldn't find my most recent so I requested copies of all. They were fast but a little sloppy, the bottom edges of two pages had a line of a car ad.

You can also take a copy of it to the County and they can make a copy and certify it for you. So if you ever lose it they can just give you a copy. Then again it depends on your County. Just my .02.

If you take it to the county remember a few things. If they file it as you hand it to them it will have your SSN on it. People "mine" such records looking for that number.

If you black out the number then it will be worthless as a record.

Better to make multiple copies and place them with your will, insurance papers, etc.
