Anyone have any experience with one?

Pros/Cons?

Are they as good as a Trijicon ACOG (magnification wise)?

Does it distort the dot?

I saw it at the NRA Convention show a couple of weeks ago. I like the fact that you can take it on/off fairly quickly (click & twist). The clarity was good, but for the price ($400) + the price of the Comp-M ($350), I would not trade it for my ACOG.

SJ - It's a nice concept. EOTech is looking at the same thing (playing "catch-up"). I fondled both of them at the SHOT Show and the Aimpoint again at the office. I've been engaged in an extensive exchange with one of the guys at Aimpoint and we've reached the conclusion that it's a nice piece of compromise gear. The only advantage we could come up with was the ability to remove the magnifier and replace it with an NVG to have a low-light system. Since I can't afford a PVS "anything" it's a moot point. I've already got Aimpoints and an EOTech so I'm not bad mouthing either one BUT - I'm with Archangel on this one. My next carbine optic will be an ACOG. It's bombproof and TR and TS have both commented on the advantages of the ACOG for intermediate range and the BAC (Bindon Aiming Concept) for close range. There should be several threads to that effect around here somewhere. FWIW - Peregrino

Thank you Gentlemen,

I have a TA01NSN and I might be selling it to an individual who is headed to the box. He needs it more than I.

I already have an Aimpoint M2 and I was looking for something to replace the TA01NSN (if I sell it) without having to step up to TA31F price tag.

One of these mounted on top of an ACOG is another excelent solution. That gives you your ACOG for range and these for up close and personal. They are high quality and affordable, if you get the civilian version.

SJ - Your buddy's situation is one of the things that really chaps my a**! Glad you can take care of him but it really flames me when a soldier has to spend part of his monthly pittance to buy what he should be issued, especially when he's headed into the shit. Makes me glad SF has been at the forefront (at least this time) getting quality gear to the troops before they go into harm's way. Hopefully he finds it money well spent and doesn't have any hassles for having non-standard (for his unit) equipment. As for you - sorry, I think you'd better start saving some of your LEO pittance. Those ACOGs get expensive. (Though you might contact them directly and see if you can get an LEO discount. Some manufacturers do.) That's why me getting one is fairly far down on the priority list. I completely agree. Units should buy the ABSOLUTE best equipment money can buy for there people, especially when they are going into harms way.

I don't think regular equipment standards will be applied to his bunch. ;) Kind of makes me wonder why he would want to buy it in the first place but that is his business, not mine.

I'm simply looking for a sensible replacement or upgrade. Also, the BAC (Bindon Aiming Concept) doesn't work with the TA01NSN because of the standard cross hairs and yellow cross hairs in low light. No donut, triangle, or chevron to grab your eye.

When you guys played with one did it magnify the dot as well? i.e. take the regular 4 MOA dot and turn it into a 12 MOA dot? or does the dot stay the same 4 MOA? I have "heard" that it stays the same 4 MOA but Aimpoints web site doesn't mention it and I don't think its possible for it to stay 4 MOA.

Ángel De Muerte, Sir, do you guys have any opinion on the Aimpoint Magnifier?

Ángel De Muerte, Sir, do you guys have any opinion on the Aimpoint Magnifier?Yes the dot is magnified. I did get a chance to play with an 2X ACOG w/ a red triangle reticle. I was very impressed with it. Even with the 2x maginification, target acquisition was just as fast as my Comp-M (and you get the benefit of a little magnification). I would replace my Aimpoint without hesitation.
