Ok, where is your favorite bagel spot and what is your favorite kind of bagel?

Mine is Panera Bread Company and the best is their Asiago Cheese Bagel. They also make an asiago foccacia which is kick ass for making a roasted portobello mushroom and mozzarella panini. Now all I need is a panini press!

Don't know the name, but it's on 9th or 10th Avenue up in the high 40s... fresh from the oven.. just a plain bagel is fine by me..

There's a place called Wholy Bagels I sometimes hit. Just plain for me, too.

My wife and I agree. The best bagels are fresh from the oven and generally only found in NYC. I too like them plain with a little bit of butter or cream cheese while the bagel is still hot enough to melt it.

H&H bagels 79th and B'way, IIRC, across the street from Zabar's. Plain or sesame with a schmear.

In LA, the best place I know of is Goldstein's on Colorado in Old Pasadena. I like a toasted onion bagel with lox, cream cheese and tomato.

The Albertson's on Tezel in NW San Antonio used to have nice fresh bagels back in the late 90's, but HEB had the best sun-dried tomato bagels.

Max's NY Deli off of I-10 had good ones, too.

I have to drive 30 miles to get a fresh bagel now.

That's about how far we went today to get them. There is an Einstein Bros. closer but it is in another state and I like to keep my tax dollars at home!

There are no places here, I have to drive 3,000 miles if I want one. I buy the Sara Lee ones from the commissary.

Mmmmm bagels. I like Panera but prefer Einstein's...let's see, favorites are the Everything, Asiago cheese, Pumpernickel and Sesame.

Forget my previous post, an authentic Kosher Jewish Deli from NY opened up a place right by my office. CRS the name, I'll have to edit my post Monday. Not only do they make sammiches but they carry a wide variety of grocery type items.

Bagels are unnnnnnbelievable, sammiches are enormous (truly, I can only eat half as there must be a 1/2 lb meat on it) and delicious. And oh the soups! matzo ball mmm, knishes etc etc. It's my new favorite deli/store and is very reasonably priced. I even got a dozen "day old" bagels for $2.50!

Man I have not had a good knish since I left Long Island. We had a little deli on the way to school and we would stop and buy candy in the morning on the way to school and then on the way home we would stop and get a pickle from the giant vat of pickles the guy made.

Does anyone make his or her own bagels?

My wife has a new grain mill and as part of our family initiative to eat healthy, we are making our own flour.

I would love a great recipe. :)

You bastiges...

I miss good bagels and knishes... H&H are great bagels, knishes are best off the carts in NYC, and any small Jewish bakery will have real bagels...

I remember this place in over by St. Johns and Bishop Reilly/St. Francis Prep named Bagel Oasis...

I hate you all, but my hate can be mitigated by sending bagels and knishes.

I think The Troll deserves a care package. That NY style deli is still open and I still don't know the name. :D But...I will swing by there in a couple weeks (out of town this weekend) so PM your stuff.

IMHO, there are only a few things to drive that long for.
A beautiful woman, money, guns and ammo. Probably in that order. It also helps if the the beautiful woman is of marginal moral makeup. :D

What brought this thread back? Oh well- I'm in the Los Angeles area. Noah's has the best that I have found. Panera's with everything is a close second...
