I'm sure the hackers are not pleased. I'm f&*(^ng pissed about the way fed's did it.
I'd prepare for massive internet outages....
If you believe anything the left says about regulating climate change, the Internet or affordable healthcare...raise your hand...
Ok...
Now, use that hand to slap the shit out of yourself 'cause you're an idiot.
With the left, it is all about expanding government power and redistributing wealth.
Regulation is the currency of government...with it they use your money to expand their power.
Everything else is camouflage.
My numbers may be off but I was reading that there was about 7 (?) large internet provides and about 3,000(?) small ones.
The internet is jumping because of all the innovation and buzz of the smaller ones.
The new rules, regulations, taxes and "oversight" is going to drive may of the little ones out of business.
Plus rates are going to go up about 16%.
The big companies with deep pockets are already lining up to put money in the pockets of politicians.
The Internet is the last bastion of freedom and liberty for the little guy.
Think of the Internet as the Keystone pipeline of information and commerce.

Predicted. Messaged per the playbook; big bad company vs. little guy (who should now be comforted someone is looking out for them).
The '85 court decision gave the telco's carte blanche to go after markets as they saw fit, but infrastructure is a decades-long capital endeavor. If the little lefty-academia-genuflecting-alum peasant thinks their monthly bundle bill is going to fund capital investment by the telecomms they have another think coming. Wait till someone plays the tape to the end for them.
The transparency aspect? De rigeur for this regime. All is tolerated because of a stone-less Congress. The 2 R's on the commission panel today (outvoted) were pretty clear in their descriptions of the ambiguous (i.e., let's fill in what we want later) nature of the rulemaking.
IMO, not all Leftists are out to expand government power in the sense of restricting freedom. Many of them fall into Reagan's description: "The trouble with our liberal friends isn't that they're wrong, it's that they know so much that isn't so."
Lol, under this regime - growth in government generates a corresponding death of individual liberty - and a massive redistribution.
They have basically telegraphed their hand at every turn.
That fundamental transformation marches on.
IMO, not all Leftists are out to expand government power in the sense of restricting freedom. .....
The leftist have no problem with shutting down the free speech of the right. In their eyes it's OK because the right is wrong so they shouldn't be passing their trash.
They say "Shut them down and make the world a better place."
Just like "Free Speech" on a collage campus.
The clue was the way the left reacted to the IRS scandal. They didn't see anything wrong with the IRS targeting "right wing" groups.
The left will see nothing wrong if the FCC goes off the reservation and starts shutting down what they consider to be "right wing" sites.
Both sides make this argument and say that the other side is wrong.
Both sides argue that the Internet is like the Keystone pipeline of information?...I see your hand going up...
ETA: So help me understand, you think the side that wants MORE regulation of something that is thriving is equivalent to a side that advocates for freedom ? Or, you can't make up your mind? Or, you don't understand? Or, you agree with the left?
Increased government regulation hurts the little guy.
The big guys line up and line lobbyist's pockets to write the regulations in a way that favors the big guys (that is the currency I alluded to above) once govt get's to stick their nose in with regulation...especially this regime...the little guys or those that do not agree with the regime...better watch out.
Oh, and the lobbyists often come from the staffs of the legislature that "wrote" the regulation.
It is a big circle of corruption.

Yes, because the side advocating for more regulation doesn't realize what they're actually calling for.Did I miss a topic segue to Obamacare...?
Yes, because the side advocating for more regulation doesn't realize what they're actually calling for.
I'm sorry Broadsword - yes what? I do not understand your point - I'm sure I'm just thick but I'm suggesting that giving govt the right to regulate the Internet gives them the right to veto or stop the information flow or increase the costs or the power to craft and write rules that favor certain groups and exclude others.
Think of the IRS abuse of power, think of the executive orders, think of the BATF trying to outlaw surplus ammunition...how could you give govt more power until it cleans up its act?
Yes, but they don't understand this;) Hence Reagan's quote.
Ok - sort of got your point - but was not quite sure based on a reading of many of your posts over the years.
The Internet/forum posting/email does have its limits and difficulties - but it sure is nice to be relatively govt free ! For the moment !!
Problems between ISPs and providers and consumers should be worked out between themselves without government intervention.
Government intervention, especially under this regime will not turn out well.
Affordable care...Internet neutrality = Obamanet like Obamacare...a cluster fuck in the making.
I'm swayed little by well recieved comments on NPR.

Here is one quote from the comments section of the NPR website on this, to show you how many on the Left are reasoning:
Now clearly this person does not want more control by the government over the Internet. Their belief is that this regulation is essential to preserving Internet freedom. You will find many people of this person's view (and their comment was rate very highly) on the various websites reporting on this.
The "LEFT" doesn't reason. What happens when their rates do go up and they still have the same crappy speeds and "preserving Internet freedom"?
I'm sure Soros kicked in the dough so some poor schmuk on NPR got faster streaming video. Again, raise your hand if you believe the left is out to help the individual and not big government...
Soros, Ford Foundation shovel $196 million to 'net neutrality' groups, staff to White House
BY PAUL BEDARD | FEBRUARY 26, 2015 | 6:56 PM
WashingtonExaminer
Liberal philanthropist George Soros and the Ford Foundation have lavished groups supporting the administration’s “net neutrality” agenda, donating $196 million and landing proponents on the White House staff, according to a new report.
“These left-wing groups not only impacted the public debate and funded top liberal think tanks from the Center for American Progress to Free Press. They also have direct ties to the White House and regulatory agencies. At least five individuals from these groups have ascended to key positions at the White House and FCC,” said the report which included funding details to pro-net neutrality advocates.
It quoted critic Phil Kerpen, president of American Commitment, saying, “The biggest money in this debate is from the liberal foundations that lavish millions on self-styled grassroots groups pushing for more and more regulation and federal control.”
Groups funded by Soros and Ford include the Center for American Progress, the American Civil Liberties Union, and Media Matters for America. They received a total of $54,226,097 from the Ford and Open Society Foundations.
Both the Ford Foundation, not affiliated with Ford Motor Co., and Open Society support the initiative.

Easy, they will listen to the Media blame the Republicans and their 1%er Masters.
I agree, my point is just not all in support of Net Neutrality support it for nefarious purposes.
And, Mussolini made the trains run on time.
I fully understand that if I were Netflix and paid for a pipeline and it got throttled I'd be upset...if I were a consumer I'd be upset. But, this is not the province of government particularly given the track record of this regime over the last 6 years.
And, it is time to recognize that giving this government more power - even with "good" or at least not nefarious intentions - is a path to a reduction in individual freedom. That is how this statist got in power...many, well intentioned citizens without nefarious intentions, supported this noose around their own neck. Hey, they want the noose they can self assess more tax or build faster/higher capacity internet backbones...but don't give government the control to put a noose on me and the little guy. The Internet has generally worked pretty well so far.

...liberal foundations that lavish millions on self-styled grassroots groups pushing for more and more regulation and federal control.”Yup. aka Astro-Turf, Next Generation. Like "Moms Against This..." "Everytown For That..." etc., ad nauseum, from Soros, Bloomersberg & the rest of the crew.
Yup. aka Astro-Turf, Next Generation. Like "Moms Against This..." "Everytown For That..." etc., ad nauseum, from Soros, Bloomersberg & the rest of the crew.
Agreed. And, while their intentions may or may not be nefarious...there is a phrase for them, too...
...useful idiots.
BTW, this isn't over. Congress may challenge the rules and various companies are threatening to sue.
Thank you - I was unsure - but concur.
All the inefficiency of government intervention/regulation will be in play.
In the meantime, capital will likely be allocated to lawyers and lobbyists and not to infrastructure or R&D. Creativity will be somewhat curtailed until the shake out. No doubt the initial regulations will favor the giant players and the little guy will spend on lawyers and lobbyists or maybe die or perhaps never enter the market.
And, technological advances may change the entire ball game - 2016 might usher in a new administration to undue the damage...all because Netfilx, ISPs and customers have a disagreement...I hope your friends at NPR are happy - they have invited the fox to look after the hen house...I sincerely hope that I'm wrong.

Everything that the FCC has EVER done results in the consumers getting screwed. I am shocked that government organizations established to develop and enforce regulations continue to develop regulations to enforce whether they are needed or not
Government destroys..... either through intent or incompetence. End result = same
And as an extra added bonus... the services will become more expensive...so we'll be able to create another government organization to provide aide to those who can no longer afford what they could already afford before we started helping them.
That's like the custom window company driving around your neighborhood and breaking everyone's windows so they can sell you new windows.

Imagine the numbers if everyone who uses the internet costs goes up 16%, that's a lot of graft! Not any different from inviting and then giving amnesty to 12 million plus illegals, colluding with the IRS, DOJ, BLM, etc... to go after your opponents. The tragic thing is they and there constituents are creating a world even they will not want... You think they will use the tax for improving the internet? So once again the answer is to tax the people for a broken model like health care.... no more than the theft of America. His adviser al sharpton was probably retained just for his coaching abilities and expertise on the subject. When the sheeple realize, it will be to late.
Real leadership that stimulates it's membership to better themselves is quite different obviously .
Amazing to me how these liberals have no eye on sustainability.

Six or seven years ago people said certain things could never happen in the USA because our nation is too well informed; speaking out against liberal government policies was something only racists, bigots, rich people, or ring wing extremists did.
-The government isn't trying to control the internet.
...you people are just conspiracy nuts; besides, that shit could never happen in the USA
-Getting rid of DADT isn't about letting transgendered/transsexual troops gain free run of the military system. Getting rid of DADT is only about equality and fairness
...you folks are just homophobes.
-Expanding the roles of women in limited combat roles has nothing to do with trying to force the military into placing women in direct combat roles.
...you folks are just trying to protect the 'boys club" rape culture that is rampant in the US in the military
-If the government can't get your guns they will go after your bullets.
...that could never happen in the USA. You people are just busy clinging to guns religion, and antipathy.
-No one is talking about giving amnesty to illegal aliens...
...you folks need to stop being racists
Yet, here we are.

man, i just signed up here to say that this really bothers me.
i'm a 25 year old male who uses the internet, and my entire peer group demographic thinks this is some sort of social justice issue, and that net neutrality is like, a bald eagle with an american flag waving behind it.
but its THEIR servers, and THEIR cables, and THEIR staff that provides people with internet. those people aren't your slaves. if you're paying me to use my stuff, its reasonable that i might charge you more to use it more, and charge you less to use it less. and you know what? even if it wasn't reasonable, its still MY STUFF, you can't just say, no, i don't like that price, and put a gun in my face.
technically you can, but what blows my mind, is that they don't just quit. like, f*** you, get your own internet, i'm going fishing.
what really bothers me is that they're being treated like this, BECAUSE they're valuable and helpful people, that make internet happen for us. and people turn around and slap them in the face for their troubles, and say, no, f*** you, you OWE us internet! its friggin savagery.
i talk to people my age and they're like, yeah, u can't crush the little guy selling ballsack muffs and novelty mugs on the internet! fight for the little guy!... i'm like, who do you think pushed this through? great, thanks social justice warriors, now the FCC is doling out bandwidth on the internet too, and now the internet is rapidly just becoming television 2.0, free at last, free at last...
man, it just really bothers me, it seems like everyone, EVERYONE! i hear talking comes from this perspective that "we can't let the businessmen just get away with profiting!" and i think of all the guys that are good at their job and make the giant wheels of our society turn to provide us with modern necessities, conveniances, and luxuries - and these are the guys that they blame everything on, and turn to take another slice out of their ass.
i guess you guys know pretty keenly that government is essentially a monopoly on violence. it scares me that everyone, the common person, doesn't just suggest, but screams, for this to be the countermeasure to 'big business', i mean, whats business a monopoly on? selling you computers at the best price possible? making you a hamburger? and you're really going to threaten these people with guns to make them do what you want them to, which is, even more for you then they already do? its just so... bitter and wicked. really unsettling.
one of the reasons i like to read this forum, because, ironically, you guys don't go around screaming for blood, you don't go around insinuating 'that someone should go and tune up those guys that we want something out of"
it occurs to me that when violence is done in your name and you just have to cast your vote or do your job, violence becomes abstracted and magnified, people don't stop and think that they are demanding that other people threaten to toss someone in a cage for having the audacity to provide internet services to them.
it just makes me :( and  to see everyone shouting to drag peaceful traders to the gallows. don't really believe in democracy anymore, whose idea was it to ask a lynch mob for their opinion? not just a lynch mob, but one whose goal is not hang the bad guy, but one whose goal is to hang the BEST GUY THEY CAN FIND.
that's all i wanted to say.
