If you believe anything the left says about regulating climate change, the Internet or affordable healthcare...raise your hand...
Ok...
Now, use that hand to slap the shit out of yourself 'cause you're an idiot.
With the left, it is all about expanding government power and redistributing wealth.
Regulation is the currency of government...with it they use your money to expand their power.
Everything else is camouflage.

Numbers
My numbers may be off but I was reading that there was about 7 (?) large internet provides and about 3,000(?) small ones.
The internet is jumping because of all the innovation and buzz of the smaller ones.
The new rules, regulations, taxes and "oversight" is going to drive may of the little ones out of business.
Plus rates are going to go up about 16%.
The big companies with deep pockets are already lining up to put money in the pockets of politicians.

The Internet is the last bastion of freedom and liberty for the little guy.
Think of the Internet as the Keystone pipeline of information and commerce.

Predicted. Messaged per the playbook; big bad company vs. little guy (who should now be comforted someone is looking out for them).
The '85 court decision gave the telco's carte blanche to go after markets as they saw fit, but infrastructure is a decades-long capital endeavor. If the little lefty-academia-genuflecting-alum peasant thinks their monthly bundle bill is going to fund capital investment by the telecomms they have another think coming. Wait till someone plays the tape to the end for them.
The transparency aspect? De rigeur for this regime. All is tolerated because of a stone-less Congress. The 2 R's on the commission panel today (outvoted) were pretty clear in their descriptions of the ambiguous (i.e., let's fill in what we want later) nature of the rulemaking.

Lol, under this regime - growth in government generates a corresponding death of individual liberty - and a massive redistribution.
They have basically telegraphed their hand at every turn.
That fundamental transformation marches on.

The leftist have no problem with shutting down the free speech of the right. In their eyes it's OK because the right is wrong so they shouldn't be passing their trash.
They say "Shut them down and make the world a better place."
Just like "Free Speech" on a collage campus.
The clue was the way the left reacted to the IRS scandal. They didn't see anything wrong with the IRS targeting "right wing" groups.
The left will see nothing wrong if the FCC goes off the reservation and starts shutting down what they consider to be "right wing" sites.

ETA: So help me understand, you think the side that wants MORE regulation of something that is thriving is equivalent to a side that advocates for freedom ? Or, you can't make up your mind? Or, you don't understand? Or, you agree with the left?

Increased government regulation hurts the little guy.
The big guys line up and line lobbyist's pockets to write the regulations in a way that favors the big guys (that is the currency I alluded to above) once govt get's to stick their nose in with regulation...especially this regime...the little guys or those that do not agree with the regime...better watch out.
Oh, and the lobbyists often come from the staffs of the legislature that "wrote" the regulation.
It is a big circle of corruption.

I'm sorry Broadsword - yes what? I do not understand your point - I'm sure I'm just thick but I'm suggesting that giving govt the right to regulate the Internet gives them the right to veto or stop the information flow or increase the costs or the power to craft and write rules that favor certain groups and exclude others.
Think of the IRS abuse of power, think of the executive orders, think of the BATF trying to outlaw surplus ammunition...how could you give govt more power until it cleans up its act?

Ok - sort of got your point - but was not quite sure based on a reading of many of your posts over the years.
The Internet/forum posting/email does have its limits and difficulties - but it sure is nice to be relatively govt free ! For the moment !!

Problems between ISPs and providers and consumers should be worked out between themselves without government intervention.
Government intervention, especially under this regime will not turn out well.
Affordable care...Internet neutrality = Obamanet like Obamacare...a cluster fuck in the making.
I'm swayed little by well recieved comments on NPR.

You will find many people of this person's view (and their comment was rate very highly) on the various websites reporting on this.

The "LEFT" doesn't reason. What happens when their rates do go up and they still have the same crappy speeds and "preserving Internet freedom"?
