Does it? :confused: I think what the picture is saying is that the star would have died out by the time the light carrying its image has reached us.
EDIT: Nevermind, I had misunderstood.
My mother brought my grandmother out to CA in what would be her last visit to our house. She was 89 or 90 and my mother was in her 70s. I found stars that were light-years distant equal to their ages. I had them look through my 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope at "their" star. They were surprised that the light that they was looking at left that star at, roughly, the year of their birth.
I didn't get into the "photon dance" and explain that a photon, in a star the size of our Sun, takes about a million years to work it's way to the surface and streak to the eyes of those who are looking...where it "dies". ;)
