As a former lobbyist for Phillip Morris, let me just say
Let 'em smoke!

In my mind, he will always have stolen pogey bait in his mouth, not a Marlboro. LOL

Nice try legal beagle, but they were welcome to it.
It was locked because the HN soldiers would take anything they could get their hands on.

Saw a deal on the news about him. He's from Kentucky, single, smokes 3 packs a day, a radio op and had been in the fight for about 12 hours when the pic was taken. He has no idea what the fuss is and is probably catching hell from his squad.
Sounds like Slinky reincarnated in a Marine version.

Concur.
What do you want to bet that Marlboro squares him away with a few cases of smokes?
That should improve his standing with his fellow jarheads significantly.

I wonder if Marlboro uses his pic.
Does he get paid?

If they use his picture, they better have his and the photographer's permission and pay them both some serious cash.
I did some work for Marlboro years ago. In 1990, they were the best paying gig for everyone involved around (even better than Victoria Secret).

The effects of war : never would have guessed I was looking at a 20 year old kid.

Kid? He quit being a kid the first time he threw on a ruck, picked up a rifle and said "Follow me!" or "I'll go."
That's no kid, that's a troop.

That picture is timeless. It's even better that it belongs to an average kinda guy.
I need to go by some Marlboros.

Three packs of smokes a day and all of the killing you want can do that to you.
GH:
You used to work for Vicki's Secret?
I would have never guessed. :D

The day after the picture hit the front page, some goofy bitch in Dallas,Tx. wrote a letter to the editor. She bitched about the Marine Corp letting a 20 year old young MAN smoke while in combat!! She also said the young man was not a GOOD ROLE MODEL for the children.
BMT
Perhaps she should consider shutting up and finding a great way to support the Troops instead of preaching what a man can or can't do. Honestly.

Nope. Never did manage to get them to give me a chance to shoot for them. Got to shoot for some of their competitors though. Hard work.

Typical lib...she'd rather have him smoking his buddy's pole as an example for her kids vice a cigarette.

Yea, what a terrible role model! How dare he smoke a cigarette after nearly getting blown up carrying half his body weight in gear and dodging bullets!
Liberal thinking is so ridiculous.
"The Christian right is taking over our country!" said Bill Mauher after Bush won.
Great picture, btw. Is there a higher resolution one available? That would be a nice desktop background.

Just a good old "kid" doing his job. :lifter
He probably has no idea how much recognition he is getting back home.
Good stuff.

What a timeless photo....
I ain't a big fan of smoking, but I would be willing to send that Marine as many cartons of cigarrettes he wants in sheer gratitude for what he and others like him are doing...
