For those who point out the large flat screens, given the changes in technology, patterns of market demand, government regulation of the airwaves, and corporate practices, and the trajectory of American mass popular culture, what types of televisions are people supposed to have?

I guess this is directed at ME. ;)
Seeing that the size of the thing was well above 50 inches, and something like that would go for some where in the neighborhood of $800.00 (or more), I just find it ironic that a family of self proclaimed illegals can afford something like that. Where there are people struggling to get by paying bills and keeping a roof over their heads and food on the families tables, who are in this country LEGALLY, and DON'T rely on govt hand outs and programs, can't afford any "fancy type BLING" like that. Any and all monies made are "ear-marked" for the above examples.
But who am I kidding ..... she probably got it with her tax refund. D'oh

It takes a set of cajones for illegals to wear a T-shirt like that, add the Che picture and you've got a good idea of how these people feel about getting their American citizenship......:( I recall just after my I received my AD discharge and a little prior to getting together with some of the other guys to form the nucleus of the 12th SFG active reserve unit in Chicago,I had the opportunity to join the Australian Army(No BS!)....... Several guys found out that there was a drive on by the their Army, kinda like our Lodge Act to try and get former SF,Marines,Soldiers with critical MOS's to sign up,the deal was simple, they would move the family at no cost and assist us in getting settled in their country, giving up your citizenship was not required..... Compensation in money would be available and pay was by rank at time of enlistment and your commitment in years you'd be willing to serve.....;) Obviously I didn't take it,BUT reflecting on where our Country seems to be headed,I can't help but wonder what would have happened if I did.

But who am I kidding ..... she probably got it with her tax refund. D'ohWhile your post prompted my question, the question was in response to many other observations of that nature. And while the question is implicitly critical of an argument, it is not a criticism of you as a person. You're a Cubs fan--that fact speaks for itself.:D
To me, the irony is three-fold. First, we currently live in a civilization that is driven economically, socially, and culturally by consumerism. However, when certain people subscribe to this sensibility, we mock them. Okay, but where in this criticism is the discussion of where consumerism comes from? Is its source the barrio or is its source the corporate board room?
Second, we live in a country in which almost every walk of life is subsidized in one way or another. Yet when certain types of people use subsidized resources in ways we don't like, then there's a problem. We get worked up when certain types of people steal resources. Yet we stand mute when other types of people stretch, bend, or break the rules of the game. (Who places a bigger burden on the American economy. Is the problem illegal aliens or the business owners, politicians, and consumers who benefit from the presence of illegal aliens? Is the problem illegals and those on public assistance gaming the system or is it those who hire accountants to exploit loopholes in the tax codes and then list the accounting fees as a deduction?)
Third, we roundly blast the American political left because many of its members believe that they know how people should live their lives. Yet, we're perfectly comfortable telling people we've never met how they should live theirs. In some circles, it is fashionable to lecture the poor on what they buy. They don't need such a big television, a fancy car, or a name brand pair of sneakers. In other circles, it is fashionable to lecture the affluent on what they buy. They don't need such a big television fancy car or a name brand pair of sneakers. How about that.
To be clear, I am in absolute agreement that illegal immigration in America poses a profound threat to our national security. I am also a firm believer that the triumph of America in world history is that most of us are committed to the concepts of equality under the of law and the rule of law. And I worry about the declension of this commitment.
My point is that when we start nitpicking each and every aspect of people who disagree with us politically, or who make different life style choices, or practice different cultural sensibilities, or who subvert the rules of the game to their own benefit, we greatly undermine our ability to communicate effectively with those who hold different points of view. (This point, I believe, is similar to one of the many very eloquent point Orion5 made in the "FLOTUS is a Marxist (http://professionalsoldiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38070)" thread a few weeks back.)
IMO, this type of nitpicking plays into the hands of our opposition. All they have to do is point out the inconsistencies and double standards of our arguments and their supporters will not notice that the policies and programs enacted in their name have not materially improved their lives.
Make no mistake. I am not a bitter person. I am perfectly content with the widespread epidemic of asshattery that rampages across the land like a rabid wolf in the light of Artemis's bow. I like my neighbors. Strike that. I LOVE my neighbors. And their kids. Wonderful, eloquent people. Bless their hearts.
However, if I were prone to feelings of bitterness--which I absolutely am not--, I would ask myself the question: Do I want to make the choice to be bitter, or do I want to make the choice to participate in the process of solving the problems. Because it is hard to do both. (Or so I've heard...I'm not bitter. Just ask anyone who's seen my Facebook timeline. Or my farms at Farmville. OMG, I forgot to harvest my rhubarb.)

All I really want is for Obama to enforce the law of the land. In 1999 I had great job running a seafood processing plant in Baja California, Mexico. To work in Mexico, one has to have an FM-3 visa. After 6 months on the job, the owners had not gotten me this visa. Being a getterdone type of guy, I had an engineer in the plant write me the required letter and went down to the Immigration Office to get my FM-3. To make a long story short, the head immigration official knew I was working without the proper documentation. I was fined $600.00 and ordered out of the country within 24 hours.
So, to any of you sympathetic to illegal immigrants, I ask the following question.
If the most corrupt, dysfunctional government in the Western Hemisphere can enforce its immigration laws, whey the Fxxk can't Obama do the same?
Uh, oh.

So? F.ck 'em.I don't just want to see the GOP to retake the White House and both houses of Congress in 2012.
I want Americans to engage in a brass tacks discussion of politics and policy.
I want the political right to engage unflinchingly with the history of this country in a way that allows us to close some glaring holes in our rhetoric and to stop the button pushing.
For example, "States rights" means different things to different people.
Can we clarify what we mean in the present without reference to the past? [Yes]
Can we afford not to? [I have doubts.]
I want the political right to demonstrate the ability to moderate its tone without "moderating" its core values and policy preferences.
I want to stir up the opposition so that they're looking at each other and bickering amongst themselves rather than linking arms and saying "See, those guys are the problem."

It's not so complicated to me.
Do what's right; that's all I ask of anyone, conservative or chihuaha. Citizen or alien.
You wanna be a citizen of this Country, go through the legal naturalization procedure (even if you're stupid enough to aggrandize Guevara).
And Sig, "moderating it's tone" hasn't got us anywhere but deeper in the stinking pit of liberal political influence.
And Sig, "moderating it's tone" hasn't got us anywhere but deeper in the stinking pit of liberal political influence. In my experience, the opposite is the case.
I've sat among those who are inclined to have a favorable view of the right's political philosophy and policy preferences. But then, the conversation will turn to the tone of the right's rhetoric and it is light's out. We are talking our way out of votes.

How well did you know him?:D
I particularly liked the comment: "some undocumented immigrants worry about being stopped while out in public".
Well if you weren't breaking the law you wouldn't have to worry about it would you?
Now with that said I think we make it too difficult for individuals to become legal. I see it all the time at my business. People sending thousands of dollars to agencies over a number of years and still they have not been given legal status.
Way too much red tape in my opinion.
So, to any of you sympathetic to illegal immigrants, I ask the following question.

And most of them were wearing "Arrest Arpaio" T-Shirts... Sherrif Joe must be doing a good job if everyone hates him that much...
Unfortunately, not enough people here in Maricopa County hate or dislike our buffoon of a sheriff. (Note: I'm biased. I cannot stand the man - as a person or a 'public servant'.)
Our camera-seeking clown of a sheriff is now channeling the late Richard Milhous Nixon from his '68 campaign. Arpaio has a "secret plan' for dealing with the 'bitch slapping' that SCOTUS gave Arizona yesterday. I guess we denizens of Maricopa County have to wait and see his master, secret plan - though I don't know how he can plan to get around this situation.
In June, DHS ("Big Sis" - whose praises "Nickel Bag Joe" once extolled) withdrew the MCSO from the 287G program due to Joe's 'antics'. Yesterday, she extended that exclusion to every law enforcement agency in AZ that is anywhere near the border - including those that probably have never stopped anyone on an "immigration beef" (Pima County... and another clown of a sheriff, though in a very different way - Dupnick).
Now, LEOs are required to inquire about legal immigration status of those they stop when they have "reasonable suspicion". However, neither they - nor their department - can deal with this issue. They must call and rely on ICE. Yes, ICE must respond, but there is no time limitation on WHEN they must respond. What's the officer to do, wait with his 'catch' until ICE shows up? 30 minutes, an hour, two hours, six hours, more??? Does the officer 'haul in' his catch to the cop shop. The officer cannot arrest his 'catch' on immigration grounds, and hauling them in opens another can of worms.
The can of worms? ACLU and other groups waiting to pounce with civil rights lawsuits. You know... those things the Supremes told AZ they'd be "looking for". So, no one is going to do ANYthing... except good old Joe. He'll institute his 'secret plan' and the lawsuits will start... soon to add to the milliions in lost lawsuits and settlements that this bozo has cost Maricopa County over the years.
Like Joe? Please come and get him. It is finally time for professional law enforcement personnel to regain the top spots at MCSO.

My late wife caught me looking at something like that once. She had me cold and demanded to know what I was looking at. I quickly responded "It's Martha Stewart's 'Do It Yourself Bikinis Out of Household Items!' In this case, dental floss and bottle caps. I was just looking for ideas for you, honey. Honest!" :D
Yeah, that went over like a turd in the punch bowl.
Still, that little joke continued on for years. Any time I was using the computer she would yell at me to make sure I wasn't looking at Martha Stewart's website again.
