Knew Bill in Stuttgart. He had moved before I went upstairs but I ran into him a few times over the years. Always a positive attitude.

Rest well

Bill was a great guy, and the courage and determination he displayed during his running battle with cancer for the past three years was an inspiration that we should all remember.

He fought the good fight and expended all rounds. Well done, hermano.

Save us a good seat, we will see you again one day.

Thank you for your service, and your sacrifice.

Prayers out for Bill and his family.

RIP, brother.

God Bless,Rest in Peace Warrior....:(

He was just a simple soldier and his ranks are growing thin
But his presence should remind us; we may need his like again,
For when countries are in conflict, then we find the soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles that the politicians start.
If we cannot do him honor while he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days.......:(

Perhaps just a simple headline in the paper that might say:
OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, FOR A SOLDIER DIED TODAY. (author unknown)

The passing of our soldiers often go unnoticed and unsung by most of the world, remembered only by family and friends. Wish it were not so. May he RIP, his family will be in my thoughts and prayers.........:(

I realize it's a Canadian song, however I believe most appropriate for this occasion..:(

Bill was a righteous brother. He was far and away one of the calmest men that I ever met. Supervising our evasion team at SERE-C with Dave Miller, John "Ug" and Pet Crittenden gave him an early start on grey hair. As my service days were ending he was an understanding boss and staunch advocate, getting me time to look at pre-med schools. He penned an exquisite letter of recommendation for my medical school application packet, and I got interviewed and offers of admission my first year.

We talked by phone over the years and when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer spoke about some of the experimental protocols he was enrolled in as a patient. They kept him alive longer than normal, but we all know Bill was anything but normal. When last we talked he had developed cauda equina syndrome (a neurological disorder of the lower spinal cord) from the cancer. I had planned to fly out to NC in May to relive the good old days at SERE-C.

Bill got an early green light and left me standing on the ramp. We'll meet him again at that far-side rally point...still smiling.

ALCON,

Just got the green light from his son to post (Names have been removed for OPSEC, those that knew Bill personally can fill it in ...)

Hello everyone,
This is Bill's son, XXX. It's been one year since I got on XXX to let you all know that he had lost his long, valiant fight with prostate cancer. It's hard to believe that it's been a year, because it seems like just yesterday he was here doing work on the house, running, reading books, talking about his Army days, and passing on all his wisdom.
Well, I thought I'd give everyone an update on how the family is doing a year later.
My mom, XXX, is still staying strong. She's spent a lot of time volunteering at XXX School here in XXX, where XXX and I attend. She's looking at getting back into dental hygiene. She remains very active in church, and she has been doing extremely well at adapting to all the change this past year.
XXX, my little brother, is getting ready to finish up sixth grade. He's making A Honor Roll at school, just finished his second year of playing basketball, and is looking forward to joining the Youth group at church this summer. This past year he also played on the middle school soccer team and really enjoyed it!
I'm a senior in high school right now. I am really looking forward to graduation, but I'm looking forward even more so to 1 July, which is the day I report for Beast Barracks at the United States Military Academy at West Point. I've wanted to go to West Point since I was eight years old, and Dad did everything he could to help me get ready and apply. I know he would be more than proud.
Finally, I'd like to thank everyone for all their prayers and support over the last year. We are extremely thankful for every one of you, and we would like for all of you to continue to keep Dad's memory alive in the coming years. God bless.

Sounds like Bill raised a good son (as if there was ever a question.)

Very Respectfully,
