Was he really an Afghan soldier or just in the uniform?
Can we be done there yet?

Afghan soldier kills two U.S. soldiers

KABUL, Afghanistan, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- An Afghan soldier, apparently angry over the burning of Korans at a U.S. air base, fatally shot two U.S. troops and wounded four others, Afghan officials said.

The International Security Assistance Force said in a statement two military personnel were killed in eastern Afghanistan Thursday by "an individual wearing an Afghan National Army uniform" but didn't identify the troops' nationality.

CBS News said an Afghan official said the dead and wounded in the attack in the eastern province of Ningarhar were American. The official said the shooting seemed to be motivated by the burning of Korans at the Bagram Air Base north of Kabul, but did not elaborate.

I have a young family member over there right now as an MP. He spends most of his time outside the wire. My entire family is worried sick about him with all this going on. Please keep him, and the rest of our troops, in your prayers.

What happens over here when a Bible is burned? I wouldn't know because the aftermath has never been large enough to warrant world news coverage.

A trial? Surely NATO would not actually agree.....

(Reuters) - Afghanistan wants NATO to put on public trial those who burned copies of the Koran at a NATO base, President Hamid Karzai's office said on Thursday, after a third day of bloody protests over the incident.

It said NATO had agreed to a trial, but that could not be immediately confirmed.

Karzai had earlier accused a U.S. officer of "ignorantly" burning copies of the Koran, in an incident that has deepened anti-Western sentiment in a country NATO is trying to stabilize before foreign combat troops leave by the end of 2014.

Demonstrations have drawn thousands of angry Afghans to the streets, chanting "Death to America!" amid violence that has killed 11 people including two U.S. service personnel.

"NATO officials, in response to a request for the trial and punishment of the perpetrators ... promised this crime will brought to court as soon as possible," Karzai's office said in a statement.

I don't know, but the president certainly doesn't apologize for it like he did for this. According to what I've read, we followed SOP by burning belongings of EPWs, WHY anyone had to know we burned them is beyond me and not anyone else's concern.

IF they protested peacefully, then ok issue an apology for damaged feelings of the "innocent people". They Killed two Americans SO FAR as a result of their protesting... a boot in the ass is more appropriate IMHO.

Support your troops from the top down, my$.02.

Thanks,

that brings to 112 sailors/soldiers/airmen/marines who have been shot or killed by our so-called "allies" in that country. Great....

If the troops who burned this Koran are to be put on trial, what governing body is to oversee and judge? What crime have the troops committed that they can be tried for?

May the brave soldiers RIP.

Whenever I read incident's like this I am reminded of an interview given by an ex-Spetsnaz soldier who served in A'stan he said one thing that somehow no I agree to very much, this is the question he was asked and this is what he(Andrei) answered:

SP: What will be the greatest threat U.S. Special Forces will have to face in Afghanistan ?
Andrei: The same that we had, the same thing. First you have to realize where their allegiance lies, when you come over their with a smile and hand out chocolate bars to their children you do not necessarily buy their loyalty. You have to realize that their loyalty lies with Allah. You are not Muslim so you are infidel. Taliban is Muslim, so they are their brother. So that is what they have to realize. Their food droppings they are doing now is not going to buy them nothing. These people have to realize these people have been at war at for 20 years. They have seen everybody, the Brit's, the Russians, everybody. The biggest thing will be the treachery. They'll smile, take your candy bar, and say thank you very much good ol Americans. Then when you leave the village they'll tell the local Taliban leader where you went, how many people, how you're armed, and so on and so on. So they ambush you.

It is very sad that people in that world compare US forces to the Soviets when infact all the Soviets did was destroy and leave a big mess for the world to clean up.The ISAF forces liberated the Afghans from all the maniacs, improved infrastructure and modernizing the country and this is what the Afghans do in the end-kill the very people who are helping you move towards a better tomorrow risking their today.

Pentagon apologizes at local mosque for Quran burning

FWIW, the West coast version of the NBC nightly news suggested that the Afghan soldier killed the Americans after they'd fired on protesters who were storming the compound. If accurate, this report doesn't make the Afghan soldier's actions any less deplorable, it does raise other questions.

Storming a compound in a war zone - not generally advisable - I suspect that one might reasonably expect to receive the sharp end.

Turning on the hand that feeds you...

Are we too trusting in the loyalties and intelligence of the Afghans involved?

If we are apologizing for this act, are we stating that we believe they were justified in killing the American soldiers?

Using the same logic, can we then respond to anti-American sentiments/demonstrations with lethal force?

I'm in no way shape or form encouraging rioting, but when the American people fight harder for their sneakers than their troops something is TERRIBLY WRONG.

The military is at war, America is at the mall tearing things up.

These Koranimals take our respect for the Qur'an as being proof their cult is the correct one. The insanity will never end...

Hey, what is the "proper" way of disposing of a Koran anyway?

Someone needs to remind the savages who set the precedent of burning Qur'ans:

Uthman sent to every Muslim province one copy of what they have copied, and ordered that all the other Qur’anic materials, whether written in fragmentary manuscripts of whole copies, be burnt.

Let me see if I understand Muslim logic. If a few ( one or two) Americans burn a Qoran it is OK to attack and kill any American or any American's friend within your reach. It is OK to saw the head off a infidal with a dull knife. It is heroic to fly aircraft into buildings and kill innocent people. All of these things are OK, and you expect everyone to view Muslims as civilezed?

Thought the following article would be relevant considering the thoughts of your SP comrad:

http://www.raymondibrahim.com/7347/war-and-peace-and-deceit-in-islam

The primary Koranic verse sanctioning deception vis-à-vis non-Muslims states: "Let believers [Muslims] not take for friends and allies infidels [non-Muslims] instead of believers. Whoever does this shall have no relationship left with Allah — unless you but guard yourselves against them, taking precautions" (3:28; other verses referenced by the ulema in support of taqiyya include 2:173, 2:185, 4:29, 16:106, 22:78, 40:28).

Al-Tabari's (d. 923) famous tafsir (exegesis of the Koran) is a standard and authoritative reference work in the entire Muslim world. Regarding 3:28, he writes: "If you [Muslims] are under their [infidels'] authority, fearing for yourselves, behave loyally to them, with your tongue, while harboring inner animosity for them. … Allah has forbidden believers from being friendly or on intimate terms with the infidels in place of believers — except when infidels are above them [in authority]. In such a scenario, let them act friendly towards them."

Regarding 3:28, Ibn Kathir (d. 1373, second in authority only to Tabari) writes, "Whoever at any time or place fears their [infidels'] evil may protect himself through outward show." As proof of this, he quotes Muhammad's close companion, Abu Darda, who said, "Let us smile to the face of some people [non-Muslims] while our hearts curse them"; another companion, al-Hassan, said, "Doing taqiyya is acceptable till the Day of Judgment [i.e., in perpetuity]."

Other prominent ulema, such as al-Qurtubi, al-Razi, and al-Arabi, have extended taqiyya to cover deeds. In other words, Muslims can behave like infidels — including by bowing down and worshiping idols and crosses, offering false testimony, even exposing fellow Muslims' weaknesses to the infidel enemy — anything short of actually killing a Muslim.

Is this why the Muslim American sergeant Hasan Akbar attacked and killed his fellow servicemen in Iraq in 2003? Had his pretense of loyalty finally come up against a wall when he realized Muslims might die at his hands? He had written in his diary: "I may not have killed any Muslims, but being in the army is the same thing. I may have to make a choice very soon on who to kill."

War is deceit

None of this should be surprising considering that Muhammad himself — whose example as the "most perfect human" is to be tenaciously followed — took an expedient view of lying. It is well known, for instance, that Muhammad permitted lying in three situations: to reconcile two or more quarreling parties, to one's wife, and in war (see Sahih Muslim B32N6303, deemed an "authentic" hadith).

As for our chief concern here — war — the following story from the life of Muhammad reveals the centrality of deceit in war. During the Battle of the Trench (627), which pitted Muhammad and his followers against several non-Muslim tribes known as "the Confederates," one of these Confederates, Naim bin Masud, went to the Muslim camp and converted to Islam. When Muhammad discovered that the Confederates were unaware of their co-tribalist's conversion, he counseled Masud to return and try somehow to get the Confederates to abandon the siege — "For," Muhammad assured him, "war is deceit." Masud returned to the Confederates without their knowing that he had "switched sides," and began giving his former kin and allies bad advice. He also went to great lengths to instigate quarrels between the various tribes until, thoroughly distrusting each other, they disbanded, lifting the siege from the Muslims, and thereby saving Islam in its embryonic period (see Al-Taqiyya fi Al-Islam; also, Ibn Ishaq's Sira, the earliest biography of Muhammad).

More demonstrative of the legitimacy of deception vis-à-vis infidels is the following anecdote. A poet, Kab bin al-Ashruf, offended Muhammad by making derogatory verse concerning Muslim women. So Muhammad exclaimed in front of his followers: "Who will kill this man who has hurt Allah and his prophet?" A young Muslim named Muhammad bin Maslama volunteered, but with the caveat that, in order to get close enough to Kab to assassinate him, he be allowed to lie to the poet. Muhammad agreed. Maslama traveled to Kab, began denigrating Islam and Muhammad, carrying on this way till his disaffection became convincing enough that Kab took him into his confidences. Soon thereafter, Maslama appeared with another Muslim and, while Kab's guard was down, assaulted and killed him. Ibn Sa'ad's version reports that they ran to Muhammad with Kab's head, to which the latter cried, "Allahu Akbar!" (God is great!)

Watching and reading about the violence against Americans, a question has arisen for me. Is the violence due to the burning of the Koran in any sort of correlation to the tribal group? Are the Hazzaris who suffered mightily under the Talib, less prone to attack us than say the Pashtuns over the issue of the burned Korans? If so, should that be entered into the whole equation of our objectives? A difference between the Shii and Sunnis?Or should they all be equally mistrusted? If it is broad based then it would seem like time to tell them to f@#k off.

Thank you in advance for your response.
