If this is true, how far will it go?
Does this teacher have an agenda?
Why do public schools tolerate these kinds of teachers, once again, if it is true?
Have heard enough horror stories from parents as it is.

If it is wrong to oppose it in class then it should be wrong to "agree" with it in class - unless of course you have an agenda you're pushing.
Public school - little robots being built in the liberal model.
The only stategy many parents have at present is home schooling.

I also think it would be interesting.
This was in the news around here a couple of days ago and has passed on.
Apparently the boy got into trouble more for the 'language' he used vs the claims he made with his ffolkes in front of the news cameras that he was punished merely because he didn't believe in homosexuality based on his family's religious views - his personal narrative has changed slightly in the telling of it all.
The Principal's reversal of the initial punishment tells me that the Assistant Principal may have over-reacted and we don't know of his interactions with that person, but we won't know the 'whole' story on this, either, as schools, like about everyone else nowadays, don't comment on details of such personal matters IAW existing privacy laws and policies.
One thing you quickly discover in education - there are MANY agendas out there.
And so it goes...

Or getting their child a religious based education.

Roger that. Making sure kids know it's cool for Heather to have two mommies is just one. Learning to put a condom on a cucumber by age 8 and that it's wrong to cite the Lord's Prayer in public are a couple others.

Had more than a few teachers/professors feel that class time was their prime time to air private grievances/family issues/boyfriend-girlfriend issues/agendas. Sometimes their views were expressed with language that was completely inappropriate, even in the swinging 60's and 70's.
Would specifically like to know how Richard has handled the problem of a teacher that struggles with the above problem.
Even more annoying in college ( regardless of agenda ) as it was completely on my dime.;)

;)
Richard deals with it by cranking up the Dixie Chix on the PA system. :D

Aren't they also producing robots?

Colleges are a different subject but in dealing with such matters with fculty (not just teachers) at the high school level, I've:
observed
discussed and counseled
mentored
taught classes to demonstrate what I expected of a teacher under such circumstances
sent teachers to observe other teachers and to be observed by other teachers with feedback
sent teachers to specialized training by private and public ed support centers
investigated allegations/reviewed curriculum and required my and Department Head approval of lesson content
held seminars to review curriculum content with parents
suspended faculty for behavior or failure to respond to guidance
denied faculty contract renewals for failing to meet performance expectations or to respond to guidance
fired faculty
When dealing with similar behavior(s) by students, I've also:
removed students from classes and enforced our school's discipline policies IAW our published student code of conduct (which had a letter of understanding and agreement which was signed by students and their families)
counseled and placed students on a behavioral modification plan (ours was called the PGP - Personal Goals Program)
required outside counseling at the parent's expense
required parents to accompany their students to class in lieu of suspension
suspended students (no credit granted for any work/exams during period of suspension) - when I suspended a stuent, I had the student call a parent from my office and explain the reason for the suspension while I sat and listened, and then spoke with the parent immediately afterwards to answer any concerns or questions - I made a short MFR of the discussion(s) immediately after we were done.
removed students from class and had them do their assigned work while isolated in my office under my supervision
denied students credit (WF = Withdrawn Failed) which affected their academic records
dismissed students
And so it goes...

Sounds like good codespeak for 'W2W counseling'...I've witnessed great strides in behavioral modification using the closed door variation of W2W.

Are you thinking of sending your kids to a Madrassa? They may grow up to be like Obama.

I think this is appropriate to the situation???
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:-Knowing when to come in out of the rain; - Why the early bird gets the worm;- Life isn't always fair; - And maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies, don't spend more than you can earn and adults, not children, are in charge. His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife Discretion, his daughter Responsibility, and his son, Reason. He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights,I Want It Now,Someone Else Is To Blame,I'm A Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

Or Catholic school. Not everyone who sends their kid to a religious school is a fundamentalist wingnut. My kids go to public school but if we lived in an area where the teachers were actively promoting an agenda I didn't agree with I wouldn't hesitate to send them off to a school run by the archdiocese.
