Obama failed to realize the "National Anthem" brought everyone to attention and precluded the toast !
We all step in a steamin' pile once in a while.

Personally, I like toasts that start with, "To the regiment,....", and end with ".....those like us, DAMN few left."

Followed with empty shot glasses being thrown against the back wall, officers and women being asked to leave, stuff like that.

If anyone was humiliated it was the the orchestra leader, he shouldn't have cut into the Prez's toast. His career at Buckingham Palace may be over, or changed to dishwasher.

BBC:

25 May 2011 Last updated at 07:12 ET Help

President Obama has joked that a musical mistake during his toast to the Queen was "like a soundtrack" to his speech.

The US president lightheartedly told Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg that he thought it added a film-like crescendo to his words.

The string orchestra of the Scots Guard mistakenly began playing the British national anthem before the president had finished his address during a banquet at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday night.

Mr Obama carried on talking over the start of God Save The Queen and raised his glass to the Queen before the music had finished.

However, the Queen did not appear to be offended and thanked the leader for his "very kind" words.

My reference was to all those seeking to create yet another mountain of a political issue over a mere molehill of a protocol glitch.

As for the MSM, just because media outlets have bias and lack focus does not mean we have to go out of our way to be just like them.

IMO, a subject more worthy of discussion is the embarrassingly disgraceful conduct of Representative Patrick T. McHenry (R-NC) during yesterday's Subcommittee on TARP, Financial Services and Bailouts of Public and Private Programs hearing <<LINK (http://www.c-span.org/Events/Elizabeth-Warren-Defends-Consumer-Watchdog-Agency/10737421715-1/)>>.

Hey little sister

What is with the type of your posts? Either get some needed sleep or bake some cookies and send them my way.

The.dot.after.each.word.is.confusing.to.me.

Spot on, I'd rather be remembering our lost brothers, then talking about POTUS.

A quick rehearsal, much like the pre-wedding dinner of the Royals, with lots of booze would have helped.

I miss President Bush, I shot birds with Gov. Bush in 1998 in TX.

Funny guy, knew when to be serious, at 50' he held a tight shot group with a handgun.

If that were the case, the headline should read, "Queen Humiliates Scots Guard Orchestra Leader".

Not to mention the fact that he had to read three or four words at a time of an easily-memorizable toast-prolly what distracted him from the fact that he was just really fucking up the protocol. :D

If I was at a fancy supper and someone stood up, started a toast, we all stood up and he said "To the President...." - I'd figure that's it, raise my glass and then drink.

But that's just me, I'm a bit low class.

In regards to the video and its poisonous title going viral, it sure is a good thing that there was no YouTube on 18 and 19 April 1985 (or, for that matter 5 May 1985).

In any case, and FWIW, what follows is a transcript of what the Queen of England actually said on 24 May 2011. Source is here (http://www.royal.gov.uk/LatestNewsandDiary/Speechesandarticles/2011/TheQueensspeechattheUSStateBanquet24May2011.aspx). Mr President,

I am delighted to welcome you and Mrs Obama to London.

Prince Philip and I are so glad that you are visiting the United Kingdom again. We have fond memories of our first meeting during the G20 Conference in London in 2009. It also gave me much pleasure to welcome Mrs Obama and your two daughters here almost two years ago.

Your visit to this country inevitably reminds us of our shared history, our common language, and our strong intellectual and cultural links. It also reminds us that your country twice came to the rescue of the free and democratic world when it was facing military disaster. On each occasion, after the end of those destructive wars, the generosity of the United States made a massive contribution to our economic recovery. Today the United States remains our most important ally and our two nations contribute to the security and prosperity of our peoples, and of the world, through shared national interests.

But our relationship goes far beyond our military and diplomatic ties. In your inaugural address, you spoke to the American people of the values that lay at the heart of your nation’s success: ‘honesty and hard work, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism’; and of the ‘sturdy alliances and enduring convictions’ with which your nation had met past challenges and would meet future ones, too. If I may say so, these values underscore much of the life of the United Kingdom also. Together with our alliance, they continue to guide our actions as we confront the challenges of a changing world.

It is unfortunate that there are so many troubles facing the world today, but we are encouraged that in most respects our two countries see these problems in the same light. For this reason we have been able to act together in fields as varied as science, research and higher education to find solutions or to at least make progress towards tackling so many of the social and economic difficulties that confront nations in all parts of the globe.

Entertainment may not be so obviously an example of our close ties, but it forms part of the lives of a great many of our people. Over the years, we have enjoyed some of America’s most spectacular musical productions and any number of what we call films – and you might prefer to call movies. In return, British films and theatrical productions have achieved considerable success in your country. This exchange of people and projects has enlarged and invigorated our common language – although I think you will agree we do not always use it in quite the same way!

Mr President, I firmly believe that the strength of our links and many shared interests will continue to ensure that when the United States and the United Kingdom stand together, our people and other people of goodwill around the world will be more secure and can become more prosperous.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are here to celebrate the tried, tested and – yes – special relationship between our two countries. I therefore ask you now to join me in raising your glasses to the continued health, happiness and prosperity of the people of the United States of America, and especially to the health of President and Mrs Obama.

The BBC headline reads "Obama makes light of toast hiccup at Queen banquet" and the BBC report is not negative.

Queen humiliates President Obama at Buckingham Palace by Refusing Toast - May 24 2011

The as-you-call-it 'headline' which seems to have gotten your and a number of like-minded ffolkes in the blogosphere's knickers in such a twist over what the Brits took to be a minor gaffe made by several at the banquet was created by somebody named Alice Fix, a 42 YO blogger from Tyler, Texas, when she posted the BBC video on her blog, Barracuda Brigade 2012. She has an account on YouTube and posts videos there with her 'headlines' added to them. Anybody wanna look at her blog and make a guess as to why she might have created such a label to the video.

Pure political whackamolehill - seems as if it's gonna be a looonnngggg election year if this is a preview of the kind of non-issue we'll be suffering.

And so it goes...

Interesting piece at the BBC

Obama v Bush: A tale of two state visits

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-13508572

"Barack Obama has completed his three-day state visit to the UK. But how did it compare with the last state visit by a US president, when George Bush came to the country eight years ago in 2003?............."

Liked the chart at the bottom.
