I guess they were more concerned with having water to drink than solving Mannings's equation. They run out of drinking water in seven years. Or perhaps they had been eating fish caught from the water supply and the mercury had affected brain function.

Those friggin' things are a farce anyway because you usually have to flush twice just to get them to work.
