“PRESIDENT OF THE WORLD: THE BILL CLINTON PHENOMENON” - CHRIS MATTHEWS DISCUSSES PRESIDENT CLINTON’S POST-PRESIDENTIAL LIFE AND LEGACY
NEW YORK—January 31, 2011—There’s not a single political figure today with the global reach and influence of Bill Clinton—a former U.S. President turned humanitarian and diplomat extraordinaire. No one else in today’s political arena has the ability to command the attention of world leaders and organizations everywhere quite like he does. This Presidents’ Day, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews will take viewers behind the scenes of Clinton’s life in the one-hour documentary “President of the World: The Bill Clinton Phenomenon.” The special will air Monday, February 21, at 10 pm ET/PT.
Since President Clinton left office in January 2001, he’s taken on a new and very successful role as an international humanitarian—his Clinton Global Initiative, Clinton Health Access Initiative, the William J. Clinton Foundation and countless other worthy efforts have made him a hero to peoples across the globe. Clinton’s innate talent for diplomacy gained him international recognition in 2009 when he aided in the release of two imprisoned American journalists from North Korea. In the last year alone, he’s provided invaluable political support to President Obama, hitting the campaign trail for countless Democratic candidates leading up to the November 2010 midterm elections.
In “President of the World: The Bill Clinton Phenomenon,” “Hardball” host Chris Matthews managed to spend a whirlwind week with Bill Clinton—hopping from the Clinton Global Initiative in New York City to Ireland, where Matthews sat down for a one-on-one interview with the former president. In addition, the hour includes intimate interviews with many of Clinton’s close friends and colleagues, including Tony Blair, Terry McAuliffe, John Podesta, Mary Steenburgen and Kevin Spacey.
“President of the World: The Bill Clinton Phenomenon” is an MSNBC original production and was produced for MSNBC by Peacock Productions. For Peacock Productions, Keith McKay is Executive Producer and Kate Hampson is Producer. Benjamin Ringe and Knute Walker are Co-Executive Producers of Peacock Productions. Sharon Scott is Executive-in-Charge of Peacock Productions. For MSNBC, Mike Rubin is Vice President, Long Form Programming. Scott Hooker is Senior Executive Producer, MSNBC. Timothy Smith is Senior Producer, MSNBC.

I just looked at the "close friends and colleagues, including Tony Blair, Terry McAuliffe, John Podesta, Mary Steenburgen and Kevin Spacey". Not sure there's anything else that needs to be said.
He does get around for somebody who was impeached for disgracing the most powerful office in the world.
Move over Monica, Chris Matthews has that thrill running up his leg, again... oh and Chris, I hear he prefers you "dress" in blue...
Just something about the Clintons and sex. Young daughter has only been married 6 months and her hubby has ditched his job and run off to CO to be a ski bum. She says she'll visit every few weeks or so.

I though that was Matt??

It's understandable for one to conflate Clinton/Obama sycophants. ;)
For what it's worth, I've heard Mr. Clinton is a very personable. Look at the way George Bush senior and him have become friends. Regardless, he continues to rack up pretty substantial revenue from giving speeches. Although, the state department plans on scrutinizing his foreign engagements so as to not have a conflict of interest. With his wife being the Secretary of State, how is that even possible?

The Harrah's Foundation presented former President Bill Clinton with a $1 million donation to the William J. Clinton Foundation Monday at Caesars Palace. Clinton then gave a speech to Harrah's employees and others about his work in Haiti, why individual charity and volunteering can make a difference, and his belief that Nevada will make it out of the economic downturn even stronger than before.

Not to be outdone:
Mr. Clinton is a big draw for the foundation, giving speeches around the world including more than a dozen in Canada since 2006. That helps the foundation pull in about $250-million annually in donations.
One of the foundation’s largest donors is Vancouver mining executive Frank Giustra, who has pledged $100-million (Canadian) to the foundation. Two weeks after the federal government’s gift to the Clinton foundation, Mr. Giustra joined Mr. Clinton and Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim in announcing plans to launch a $20-million (U.S.) fund to finance small business in Haiti.

I would love to go through the books and see how the money in this foundation is spent. According to the 2009 tax return, 559 employees made a total of $38,212,118 in salaries etc. An average of $68,357 per employee. Not a bad gig.

Yeah, on top of getting impeached for lying about getting a blowjob in the Oval Office, he's done all that, too.
Oh, and China loves him.
Just goes to show how easily people can be taken in, and how many TRUE sheeple there are out there.

How about a $20 million fund to finance small business here? Might that not make a lot more sense?
These people disgust me.

How about $20 million to help wounded warriors.

How would it make more sense if Mr. Giustra, a Canadian national, and Mr. Slim, a Mexican were to donate money to American businesses?

If one were to follow that line of thinking, it doesn't make sense that they would donate money to Haiti, either. You know, since they aren't Haitians...
I makes more sense because our economic engine is likely to have a far greater beneficial impact on the planet. What's Haiti's global impact, hmmm?
You need to square your own house away before you can expect to be truly effective at lending aid to others.
As far as the link to the Clinton site, you can go ahead and save that propaganda for somebody else.

Philanthropy, national tax incentives, corporate and international investment opportunities, and positive international publicity with access to senior government officials can be powerful enticements to those with wealth and egos to be involved in such activities.
And so it goes...

If one were to follow that line of thinking, it doesn't make sense that they would donate money to Haiti, either. You know, since they aren't Haitians...The logic of that line of thinking is that folks are allowed to spend/donate their money as they see fit. YMMV
(By your logic, wouldn't the money be even more "beneficial" if it were used to spur continued economic development in the European Union?)[It] makes more sense because our economic engine is likely to have a far greater beneficial impact on the planet. What's Haiti's global impact, hmmm? Makes more "sense" by whose measure and by what metric? Is the Clinton Foundation seeking to spread the benefits of capitalism based upon a trickle down model or is it using a bottom-up model that empowers individuals to make their own choices?
To answer your question, Haiti was a focal point of the development of American and European civilization from the late sixteenth century through the long nineteenth century.
Contemporaneously speaking, it is likely that Haiti will remain strategically important to America until that time the U.S. decides to repudiate the Monroe Doctrine--a cornerstone of national security strategy for almost two centuries.
As far as the link to the Clinton site, you can go ahead and save that propaganda for somebody else.Is it sound to discount information out of hand as "propaganda" when that information can help answer a question one has posed?
