The media can truly make me sick sometimes.

Wow - My kids are in their mid to upper teens now and what they watched growing up was totally embedded with Ayers / Gore messaging. I can only imagine how bad it is now.

Too bad they didn’t portray Dora as a little kid beaten-up by SEIU thugs…

OK call me stupid.

First off I didn't know Dora was a "Latina".

Second, since I didn't know she was a "Latina" why would I give any thought as to if she was legal or illegal.

Third, as far as I know there are countless legal Latinas and Latinos in the US.

Ah so, desu ka wakarimashita,, You don't have G-kids,, Just wait...

Dora and Go-Diego-Go are SA based and use Spanish phrases regularly.

My 4yr G-daughter watches Nik Jr insistently.

Good shows for little ones, but they have a fair amount of PC influence..

As to Dora's legality?? Who cares...

Under the new AZ SB 1070 - would any station broadcasting a program which 'knowingly employed' an illegal immigrant character be considered 'encouraging or inducing' illegal immigration and, therefore, in violation of the law?

The Deport Dora FB pages are already getting cranked up - wonder if they'll be as big a hit as Draw "Mo" Day :D

No excuse.

Daughter # 1 has the first G-kid chuted up but still sitting in the troop seats. Due over the DZ in August. Daughter # 3 will still be 10.

All my daughters were more interested in Discovery, History and NatGeo.

Dora and the rest of the nick gang were seen on lunch boxes and flicked through on the TV.

This is true with TV in general, is it not? It's a box of lights with an agenda, be it commercial interests or political doctrine.

Keeping in mind that i am a that i am a 19yo that doesn't know s**t about s**t I personally believe that these cartoons such as Dora the explorer are an attack on our American culture. My sister watches these shows and has from the time she was about 14 mo (starting to move on to Sponge Bob and iCarly now that she is 9yo) and i am appalled that they (they being the PC media) are trying to 1, teach the children of our country Spanish before they can speak English and 2, that they are trying to tell the kids that you have to be bi-lingual in this country and that the other language u learn has to be Spanish or you are shunned (my personal experience taking french online at a minority high school). It is quite infuriating and is not helped by the fact that the President of the United States is saying that a country is not defined by its borders, language or culture and that it is the duty of all Americans to be multicultural.

You should know that the originator of this thread is hispanic. Race, was never even on my mind when I posted. Thank you for allowing me to see your motivations.

I will say however, that once you stand up, sign up, kit up, and redeploy after having put your neck on the line for your country then I will reread your comments and possibly better understand your point.

Until then lets not let this digress into a racism arguement. It was never meant to be.

Di-Blue, one thing you have to understand is that this country has ALWAYS been a multi-cultural state. It was originally inhabitated by numerous indigenous peoples of varying cultures. It has been colonized by English, French, German, Spanish and even Norse peoples, as well as others. The "American Culture" is, and has always been, an amalgamation of the cultures of all of these various peoples. Speaking more than one language should be seen with a sense of pride, not as a bad thing. The percentage of people in this nation who can honestly claim pure blood of ANY race or nationality is probably so small as to be insignificant. I know I can't. Can you?

Personally, I find other's cultures fascinating. You never know what you will find useful, instructional or even fun.

Spanish, French or Latin? Gotta love public schools.

Ds # 1 and # 2 went to a "classical" school and they had to take a foriegn language. Only French and Latin were offered.

In one of my trips up there I asked the principle why they didn't offer Spanish. She replied that it was a Classical School. When I stated that Spanish was the only one of the three that you could do anything with around here I got that "You are an idiot" look.

I wonder if she knew she had just put down Spanish Culture?

Rome and all.

I didn't want to stress her out too much. Just talking to parents seemed to stress her out. She changed the front office around so when she saw a parent walk in she could duck out a back door and disappear into the hallways.

The desk workers would look in and "Sorry, she's not in."

Didn't take long to walk out fast, turn the corner, a little speedwalking and you could nail her before she got to the gym.

The only culture that seemed to get any traction with the school was hip-hop.

ROFLMAO - I don't think hip-hop has anything to do with Latin.

Actually, that is not as off-beat as it sounds - although the principal's inability to explain why makes it seem even more out-of-step than it may be. Schools ascribing to the "classical" education dictum use a model based primarily on the traditions of Western culture with a further glance back to the Ancient Greek concept of Paideia (the use of the principal subjects of rhetoric, grammar, mathematics, music, philosophy, geography, natural history, and athletics) to educate people into fully developing into their true form, the real and genuine human nature. Amongst these "classical" schools, Greek and Latin (and later French) were the traditional languages taught in order for students to be able to study and understand the original source documents/readings. This has changed with time and many other languages have since been added to many schools currently labeled "classical" - however, there are those who still adhere rather strictly to the original model.

My sons all attended "classical" high schools (vice "magnet" or "vo-tech" schools) - one studied Spanish, one studied German, and one studied ASL for their foreign language requirements. The school my last two sons attended here now offers Spanish, Latin, French, and Japanese (but other languages can be taken at other high schools or local colleges).

A typical "classical" high school here requires a minimum of 4 yrs of English, 4 yrs of Math (Alg1, Geom, Alg 2, Pre-Calc or AP Calc), 4 yrs of science, 4 years of social studies (WH, WGeo, US, Gov/Econ), 3 yrs of foreign language, 2 yrs PE, and 6 units of electives.

And so it goes...;)
