Oh Dozer, you're gonna make me cry.
Oh wait, never mind. I stopped the boohoo for the Cubs years ago.

Winning the World Series does seem to 'go around' - hell, even the D-backs did it! However, it never seems to "come around" for the Cubbies! :D
I moved to AZ from S. Illiinois in '63. The Cubs ruled Spring Ball here in the Cactus League then... and still do, to a lesser extent. AZ is full of Cubs fans! Everyone would say, "You're from Illinois, so you must be a Cubs fan." No way... I grew up 75 miles SE of Saint Looie, Mizzouie... and am a die hard Cards fan.
Stan was and always WILL BE "The Man"!

I have no problem with Dozer's post, being a Cubs fan since I caught a HR ball when they beat the Dodgers in the LA Coliseum while Walter O'Money was waiting for his new stadium to be built. (Kids from 8 to 80: ALWAYS take your glove to the game.)
The fact is, for die-hard Cub Fans this is the most long-standing AND CIVIL rivalry in baseball. And I mean BASEBALL, not that other game with 10 people played by folks like the Texas Rangers...
In either home venue one will see a nearly equal mix of blue & red during the regular season. It's great, and both fans truly appreciate the game.
Besides, everyone from the Midwest knows that the team that is truly HATED by both is the Mets.
The bride & I rooted for the Cards big time in the series; again because they play baseball, not that game the interlopers from Arlington play.
Hey, 2012!
It might be, it could be....
added: A game at Wrigley is the only reason I would make an under-cloak-of-dawn ingress to the north side of the People's Socialist Enclave of Chicago.

So I guess the question for Cubs fans now is, which is the bigger disappointment: That Ryne Sandberg is definitely NOT a contender for the Cubs Managerial job, or that he IS a contender for the Cardinals gig?
Lets Go Mets! (Yeah, Yeah, we have our own problems). :D

Go Cards!Just so you know, your assistance has been utilized since 1909, not 1908 (http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/chc/history/timeline02.jsp). (Cubs have the edge on the Cards in terms of overall regular season W/L.)
This is an interesting retrospective (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1142361-why-the-chicago-cubs-vs-st-louis-cardinals-rivalry-is-the-best-in-nl) except for the fact that it mentions Broglio for Lou Brock....
As Harry would say, "boy, oh, boy..."

As a die-hard Reds fan, I respect the Cardinals as a worthy divisional foe. The Cubs, on the other hand......:D

Actually overall the Cubs have a slight W-L edge on the Reds...
That is true, but I believe success is ultimately defined by championships. Most of the reason why I despise the Cubs is because of the Chicago fans I know. They are so adamant about every season being the Cubs year. The Cards do the same, but they actually back it up more often than not...
Although to their credit, the Cubs' fans are very loyal and travel with the team often.

They are so adamant about every season being the Cubs year. The Cards do the same, but they actually back it up more often than not...I don't despise any team because of their fans (well, maybe the NY teams). I don't know who you're hanging with but most Cub fans who are students of the game know they don't play well till it gets really warm out, and are still shaking their heads like the Cleveland fans in the movie 'Major League.' The Cubs embody baseball; seldom anything like the off-field drama of some other teams' players. They inspire kids to get dirty, scraped up and sweaty & that's a good thing.
Although to their credit, the Cubs' fans are very loyal and travel with the team often.I've been to both St Louis and Wrigley when Cards & Cubs are playing each other and you can sit right next to someone wearing the other color and have a blast. A TV camera's pan reveals the red/blue mix which is pretty cool. Lots of places on the west coast during road trips it's mostly Cubs' blue - they're all over.
ETA: If someone, for whatever reason, doesn't want to deal with the experience of being in Rahm Emanuel's backyard, check out a game at Miller Park in Milwaukee when the Cubs are up the road playing the Brewers. I have it on good auth that it's a very fan-friendly park and a pretty good BB watching experience if you want to see a live game. Not a hillside picnic like Spring Training in Mesa, AZ but not bad considering some other parks around the country.

The Cubs and Cards are playing in St. Louis next week (May 14 and 15). It would be nice to get in a game as I will be there Wed-Sun but they are going on the road. :(
Cubs fans and Cardinals fans disagree on many things but they can come together to enjoy the sorry state of the NY Mets and the meltdowns the Metropolitans inspire <<LINK (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgyRKcEXYtI)>>.

Checking the schedule I can even blaspheme and root for Houston today.
Dozer needs to get his team motivated - no Reds! At least it would make for some friendly post-season watching.

:lifterNo sour grapes here; you got 3 chances at Wrigleyville this weekend to solidify that WC spot. (My Cubs are still figuring out what they wanna be when they grow up next year.) [insert facepalm smiley]
Get it done; you let the Dodgers have that WC spot I'll be pissed.

For me, the world series (since those other people don't play baseball). A gratifying moment last night as HH6 explained to an incredulous neighbor (who knows we're Cub fans), "it's baseball, the Cubs, Cards, it's a family thing...we just have to get through this."
More gratifying after the 9th inning. (I'm getting older. FRACK!, don't do that guys.)
I think the climate & dimensions of the Giants' park might lend itself to some "Whitey ball" - think I'd like to see a bit of that again.

did last night work for you? The Cardiac Cardinals strike again!
Seriously, just like last year in the final two games against another team with little or no post- season experience. One thing the Card have is the faith that comes with being able to say, "World Series, we been there before. We know the way. "
I did feel sorry for the DC fans. That had to be tough.
It all came down to 14 pitches with 2 outs in the ninth. http://dc.sbnation.com/2012/10/13/3496742/cardinals-vs-nationals-nlds-game-5-gone-in-14-pitches

Enjoyed some of the post-game team member quips this morning. Most of 'em along the lines of "we never quit." Says it right there, or as Harry used to say: "Big possums walk late."
Scrappy baseball is BASEBALL!
